Power Steering Rack -AN Adapter
hey y'all. I've been having a bitch of a problem with my stainless braided hi pressure PS line.
I've made the line correctly (doesn't leak), and bought what i thought were the right fittings. My fitting on the Pump (16mm x 1.50) with a copper crush washer seals beautifully. THE PROBLEM: I can't get the damn adapter on the rack (14mm x 1.50) to seal for shit. I've tried: 1. Earl's O ring fitting (aluminum) 2. " " With crush washer #1 (wide sucker) 3. " " With crush washer #2 (skinny sucker similar to the one used on pump) 4. " " Russell O ring fitting (steel)(longer tapered section which i thought would press the o ring in to seal) They all leak! I haven't tried any crush washer with the russell...but i doubt that'll do anything I've tightened the fuck out of both fittings (all my strength on a box end wrench) and it leaks out from the adapter. any suggestions? |

thread sealant!
![]() my cousin and I went through the same deal hahaha edit: is your fitting leaking on the racks high pressure line? or the fitting for the return line to the reservoir here are the 3 fittings that I remember high pressure pump fitting: crush washer high pressure rack fitting: nothing and no leaks ![]() return line rack fitting: o-rings = leak 2 different crush washers = leak thread sealant = good

sorry for getting a little off topic, but i am gonna be putting power steering back on my car in the near future with braided lines like you guys, but i just have one question, is this wire plug/connector in the pic below important? what's its purpose and where does it go on the harness? how are you guys doing your ss lines with that plug?
![]() thanks, brent |

we just got rid of it
DJ something talks about it in his thread either on here or nico but it does something like raise your idle at full lock someone with more information could chime in but from what I recall, it does something like that and that it's not needed

naw, it's a pressure sensor. when you turn to full lock, the pressure becomes much higher and strains the pump (thus straining the engine) which is why you can hear it struggle at full lock.
so the pressure sensor anticipates this and kicks up idle a bit to compensate. For the brief time i've run without it, it doesn't seem to make much difference. As for the link to the summit adapter you showed me, it's basically the same as the two i've tried, it just doesn't have an o ring. the Earl's adapter was basically non o ring anyways since it wasn't long enough. But maybe i'll try the thread sealant trick.... |

If you don't have the sensor, the engine may stumble a bit. Is it needed? That depends on you. Are you sensitive to noise, vibration, and harness? If you are, you shouldn't be in an S-chassis ![]() But it doesn't hurt anything to leave the switch out. |
