exedy oem clutch..

i installed an exedy oem clutch on my sr20det...da clutch that was in was already worn out but dis new one seems like it has less grab...the old clutch had 6springs on the clutch plate and the oem exedy had 4springs...it feel likes the old clutch had more grab even tho its smells alot...should i jus upgrade to stage 1 exedy...i have a feeling that the old one that i replaced was a worn out stage 1...can anyone give me some advice or input...

Well if you haven't properly broken the clutch in then your going to notice some drag in first gear. Especially on a stock clutch. The exedy OEM replacement should be good for about 205 lbs of torque, IIRC.

The stage 1 is good for up to 240-250 i think.

How much power are you laying down? That could be your problem.

not that much power...its pretty much stock just k&n air cone filter and 3inch down pipe and 3 inch straight pipe...i was told that it didnt need any breaking in...with the old clutch it seems to be faster....

Who told you that? You should always break in a new clutch. 500 miles of baby shifting, at least.

Sounds like you glazed your friction disc already, and now it's slipping.

Someone lied to you. You toasted it. Get your flywheel resurfaced and buy a new disk. Or, get a real clutch, like the Exedy Stage 2 - I don't see any point to the Stage 1 (OEM replacement, the one you have) because it's not as good as OEM lol.

You fail miserably at sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. To answer your question... The stage 1 exedy clutches have 4 springs just like the OE clutches. If your original clutch had 6 springs it was most likely somebody's stage2. If the clutch was stinky after use then it was bad anyways, it just probably had a firmer initial engagement because the pressure plate was more aggressive. Break in is not as important as some people make it sound, but you can't just go out and drift it right off the bat. I wouldn't worry about going 500 miles or some shit like that, just drive it normally (as in normally for a normal person) for a week or so and you will be fine.

Not true. Exedy makes an OEM replacement and then they also make a Stage 1, 2, etc.

The OEM replacement is about $115. The stage 1 runs about $300. Stage 2 is around $450 IIRC.

And since when is an Exedy OEM replacement not as good as OEM? You're comparing it to a Nissan clutch? Sure go with a Nissan clutch, if you want to waste around $250. IMO (and I'm sure I'm not alone here) Exedy is one of the best clutches for the money.

no matter the brand if not properly broken in they will not hold up. by braking in i mean at least 500 miles of CITY driving (city driving is red light to red light with lots of shifting not much boost if any). if you try to dump the clutch before that period the chances of a full life are drastically reduced in my opinion. sure if you got the money to swap them out after each run then dont break it in. Also if you want it to be done right then get the flywheels surfaced by a reputable shop. if you dont get the flywheel true and dont let the disc get properly broken in then you FAIL
