I was just wondering, does anyone own or know anyone that owns a parking lot that they would let people drift on? Reason i'm asking is because my buddy knows a guy that used to own a parking lot that he used on occasion for drifting, and i thought, "hey, that'd be neat."

You would need permits to hold such events.

Just because he owns the land doesn't mean he can do whatever he wants with it.

Yeah the owner would most likely have to go to the city and request permission and you would have to get permits and allot more I am just giving you a general idea of what you would have to do

wtf is going on in this thread.

Anyway, if the parking lot is not open to the public, I.E. doesn't have any access by public roads...basically has a gate...and the cars don't violate any noise ordinances and shit like that, i don't see why it would be a problem.

But if there is a chance that some old lady could turn into that parking lot and get it by a car that understeers into her driver door, then no.

Even though you own the land, the local jurisdiction can still regulate the type of activities that take place on your property with zoning for taxes and other legal purposes.

You cant having a racetrack because it's a business and it will not be zoned for such business.
But if you had a long windy ass road to your residence, and you own...much different.

Ultimately it comes down to the Law Enforcement in the area. If it is a private lot, with no residences nearby, with no noise complaints, I doubt they care.
Make sure the owners of the property are present.

i remember a long time ago we used to mess around at a friends shipping yard away from any neighborhoods. we never got hassled while we were in the lot. except for one time cops actually waited till we got out of the gates. they tried to tell us we were trespassing but my friend cleared it up so they gave everyone random tickets like front license plates and exhaust. one guy got a curfew ticket, i got a brake light ticket.

I hate that. When cops can't bust you for what they meant to in the first place, they just HAVE to find something else wrong. They have to meet quota I guess.

yup, i was at a meet, and unfortunately i was the last one to leave when the cops arived and got pulled over in a bone stock 240. First they tried to say i had modified intake because i had duct tape to cover my hole, but they ended up giving me a ticket for a chip in my windshield no more than the size of a quarter. Sucks.

Ahh good ole US of A, the land of rules and regulations. If I owned land and got told I couldn't have fun on my own damn property, I'd tell the offender to go fuck themselves with the nearest large tree branch. I hate our government so much.

But seriously if it's a private lot and the owner gives permission, I don't think anyone will care much. If I were the owner I'd probably have the people attending sign waivers though so if they screw up they can't sue.

Probably not, but unless this huge paved lot was in the middle of nowhere or the deepest of industrial areas, it would probably violate noise ordinances.
