You got an error because of the way the Cat works in the s14, it's integral in monitoring the Air/Fuel mixture. There are ways to get around it, but until you do it I'd put the cat back on...

Just wondering, how can an o2 sensor tell the computer whether it needs more fuel or more air? Will the car still run right (just have an annoying light) or will the air/fuel mixture actually get messed up and make the car stall or something?

I heard you can weld in a straight pipe on the s14's and take the little rope tehing htat's holding it and attach it to the pipe and it will run fine.  amattmatic240sx told me that.....or something like that.

Anyone here of that before?

There are two sensors in the exhaust - usually.

The real O2 sensor sits right up by the collector. (depends on model)

There is a cat temp sensor which is in the cat itself. It is used to ensure the cat is not over temperature. I have only witnessed an overtemp condition not an under temp.

The cat temp sensor I have removed (legally in NZ). Well actually it is still in the loom but is measuring the air under the floor of the car.

The real O2 sensor is used by the ECUs for closed loop operation and feedback control of mixture. This is left in place as it is crucial to the effective tuning of these vehicles.

i know for hondas you can buy little gadgets for under $25 shipped that fool your ecu, simply using a little heater element to make the ECU quit throwing codes. im sure theres a nissan equivalent somewhere, or if they're both 4 wire sensors, it'd be cross compatible?
