Does snow hurt any of the mods on your car? I've been told that I can't run a cold air intake in the winter, is this true? I was told not to run coilovers in the winter, is this true? I need to know what winter will do to my car, so I can work around it.

The cold air intake isn't a problem in snow or rain. Even the cold air extension is OK, as long as it's not submerged in water. Make sure you get a K&N filter and DEFINITELY buy the cleaner and the oil--it's made especially for repelling moisture so it doesn't go into your engine. The oil is a definite necessity.

I'm against the oil, and all non-dry type filters. The oil gets sucked into the intake, clogs up the MAF sensor, and can accrue around the TB plate, and suck.

do you mean the moisture filter? Like the one that come on the AEM kind? lIke a bypass valve?

The AEM bypass valve is mostly junk. Like 96SEChick said, are you going to submerge your filter in water? no? then don't worry.

Jeff240SX, that's only a problem if you over-oil. There aren't many cone-type filters to my knowledge that don't use oil anyway... so, yeah. Everything's either a K&N-style oiled gauze, or oiled foam.

You know, Jeff, I've never ever had that problem. Maybe it's due to the fact that I use a K&N panel filter & not a cone.. My MAF works perfectly, and my TB is as clean as it was when I cleaned it about a year ago. I try not to soak my filter in oil.. maybe that's it.

would a regular filter be no good? Are the cone shaped the best for air flow, or should I have one for the summer and one for the winter?

Getting an Injen intake with the CAE isn't a bad idea. During the winter it may also help to remove the extension and bring the filter into the warmer engine compartment so it isn't sucking up really cold air all day and forcing the ecu to compensate with extra fuel for the added air density. Plus it would probably warm up faster at start up. The other seasons would all greatly benefit from drawing in air not heated by the engine compartment.
