1. Come into turn
2. Stay to the side that is shorter in distance (right on the right hand turn, left on the left) 3. Accelerate and cut the wheel to the opposite side 4. Stay sideways Now, this works for me only in right-hand turns. I stay to the side for a few seconds. On left-hand turns I can't do it at all. Is the problem in my rear-end (the car, boys, the car) or am I doing something wrong? |

hehe yay i'm coming to the rescue for s13girl! GO ME!!! YES GO ME
ok now that that's outta my system for low speed drifts, u step on the brake a few times before the turn to slow ur car down, then turn the way u want to go, floor it in a lower gear, and turn the other way that way, the torque form ur lower gear, combined with the slow car from the braking, will cause u to oversteer if u want to take it at a high speed, use ebrake to break the traction of the rear wheels without losing too much speed, and then floor it [in the same gear i believe...] and then theres all those other ones like intertia drift and stuff that i hav no clue how to do.. oh and BE CAREFUL! cuz i drive a fwd ford taurus and all i kno is the logistics behind drifting, wont be able to back up these suicide methods till i get a 240 |

As far as which way to turn the wheel, think of it this way. You want to keep your front wheels pointed in the direction you want to go, so if your rear end starts swinging to the left on a right hand turn, you'll have to steer to the left to keep the wheels pointed in the same direction. Also... as far as keeping a drift going, an LSD will help out a LOT. With a normal differential, only one wheel tends to spin. That's probably why you haven't been able to keep drifting for very long.
I know how to drive in a drift ok because of winter experience. I'm just not good at starting it. I've heard from a few people that in a high speed drift you have it in a low gear, and lift your foot off the throttle really quickly to shift the weight from back to front. Sounds like a good idea to me. Using an e-brake is usually used for FF cars if i'm not mistaken. |

me and my friend do it all the time in his '01 Dakota R/T. one time, just one time he hit the gas a little tinsy bit too hard, on a right turn, and #### near hit a curb. maybe an inch more and his trucks front bumper would've been TORE UP! and our friends were watching us do it before they took the same turn. when we did it, we looked back, and they were cracking up! me and my friend almost shit bricks!!!! it was cool though. we rarely do it after that little incident haha. he has an automatic. and A LOT of horsepower, so he can do it with ease.

I've seen videos where ppl will turn hard left and then jerk the wheel right to really get the back around. There was a link a couple weeks ago to a really good article on all the different types of drifting and how to do it.

THE DRIFTER IS IN THE HOOOOUUSE! well not really but since its been raining i have been practicing at every possible moment. I did a nice sway drift all the way down my street, i think that where you fishtail down a street. the first time it was a little rough but my second time was a whole lot smoother. i still can't do those nice ass drifts they do in the videos but i can come around a turn kick the back end out and keep it sideways for a while. my only problem is when i recover it is too rough. i have done some nice one but i need more practice... just need to be smoother

OK girl, you had better feel special, I actually used the search feature to find the link. http://www.driftclub.com/ they have a lot of good info under Drift Tech. Enjoy, be careful, don't wreck.

This is how to drift from the guys at the slide squad!
Please Remember: Only attempt this in an area expressly deemed legal and safe for drifting, never on public roads. Step 1: Come into the turn at a high speed. Turnthe steering wheel in the direction of the turn very fast to transfer the weight to the front wheels. Step 2: Push the clutch in while pushing in the gas. Step 3: Release the clutch, keep your foot on the gas pedal. The car will start to swing sideways. Step 4: Countersteer the steering wheel very fast in the opposite direction of the turn. This releases tire grip from the front tires and induces a full slide. Step 5: Keep the countersteer going, and adjust your foot pressure on the gas; keep the rear end swinging out. There is a diagram to go with the instructions, just click the link. http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/boostedduece/lst?.dir=/240sx&.src=ph&.last=1 (Edited by MattS14 at 3:39 pm on Nov. 22, 2001) |

helpful hints: use shit tires on the rear, this'll help you lose the end, and use your sticky ones up front so you can keep the car going in the direction you want.
always try to maintain the proper balance in countersteering. if you underdo the countersteering, youll completely spin out. if you overdo it, you'll bring the tail all the way back under control. for lower powered fars and FWD cars, or in high speed conditions, use the E-brake, yes. if you have enough power (even a US spec 240sx should be able to) you can use clutch pops like matt suggested. if you have ALOT of torque, you can simple go WOT. this is alot like trying to wheelie a bike. for the tuning, you want to keep the struts hard on the rear and softer on the front. strut towers and beefier sway bars will help alot, and you dont want to drop your car too low. also, an LSD is a MUST to hold a drift for too long. the whole point of this is to keep constant traction on the wheels after you break the tail loose, so you can continue moving then you're inverted. to do this, you need to keep the car as flat as possible, which means trying to eliminate body roll, and to keep from shifting weight to either side of the car. and always: practice safety at all times. and ever wonder why all the japanese doriftu cars you see have mismatched bobo ass wheels on them? because they dont want to fuck up their nice wheels when they're drifting, other than ripping your front end off, that $2500 set of wheels and tires will be the first casualty when you make a mistake and curb your car. |

haha yes definitely be careful
the sil-eighty came out purely because of accidents in drifting lotsa ppl drivin the 180's in japan smashed their front end, so they decided to replace it w/ the silvia front cuz it was cheaper, and then it became a trend to do that.. sorta like giant exhaust tip in america hahaha so then nissan made sil-eighty's just for that trend and tuned em juz fer drifting too... ... .... that is all... carry on haha |
