anytime you purchase a used engine you are taking a risk

one of, if not the, most important thing to remember is the place you get your motor, make sure its reputable, does pre sale inspections and has a good warranty.

not all engines are in perfect condition. but if the place you bought it from is run by good people, it will be in damn good condition when you get it.

i know that didnt answer your question much, but its good info you should know if you havent purchased the engine yet.

oh also, the compitance (or lack of) of the person/people who install it is MAJOR. ive seen swaps that look great on the pallet and for some odd reason the installers brain shuts off and they wind up damaging somthing that needs replacing.

I don't know specific nightmares, but I've heard of cases where the turbo is in terrible condition. They are all coked up leaving you with 2 options, either getting a new one or rebuild which equals more money. Like Kamin said, any time you buy a used engine, make sure its from a reputable place. Other times its a bad fuel injector + boost = bad! Fuel Pressure Regulators going bad, electrical systems shorting out even causing fires. Remember, some of these engines have been sitting out for a while, if you buy a ~95 engine, this thing is atleast 8 years old. And who knows whats happened from ~95 to the present. I would find out if there is a warranty or gurantee from the shop.
Hope this helps. Remember, 90% of the stuff can be fixed, its just how much money you want to dump in.

LOL. Not trying to scare anyone but its the reality of the issue. Whether they are great engines or not, some aren't always well taken care of and unless they have the history of the engine and the owner then you will never really know. True, KA's are around that have probably sat for a couple of years but they are pretty cheap and if something breaks, oh well, you can go hit the local auto parts store and begin your shopping. Another thing that I just saw on another post is legality. I'm not sure on the legality of it all but I'm sure that a KA24DE is much easier to pass emissions, inspection...etc. then it is to have a swapped SR. But like its always been. Its a matter of taste and $$$. If you have the cash and like the SR. Then go for it. If you don't want to go through the trouble of swap. KA-T I would think is it. Eh. Just my 2 cents.

I got your message, I'll call Jose and ask about the hub tomorrow when I call him about my brakes and some stuff I ordered for his phone, and if all goes well tomorrow morning with my lights, we can stop at the bar somewheres, I don't have to work...

And I am full aware that you only got half the car by design, I was making a bad joke at your expense...

Go through Heavy-Throttle. Jeff and Yuri will take care of you. I have never heard bad stories about any of their dealings. It is also where I got my engine
