right hand drive conversion

i was just wondering if a right hand drive conversion is possible on a usdm 93 240sx. If that is done then is installing and sr20 a little simpler. I suspect theres much work into doing the right hand drive conversion but is it possible if u just get parts from a front clip??? any constructive opinions would be well apreciated.

thanks
james

I don't think it would be worth the effort. Why would you want to do that? How could it make anything easier?

I'd say don't bother. Unless you have an '89 or '90 it really makes no difference in the motor swap (you need longer power steering lines in the '89 or '90 :P). The only reason you'd change over to right hand drive is for style, and pretty tacky style I might add :P

Keep it left hand drive, it's safer, easier, and will take zero time learning to do, and unlearning when you get into another car.

RHD is just cool, like being able to go to a fast food place and have the people be like "WTF" or when you get pulled over and the cop goes to the left side of the car and is like "WTF"

basically its just nice to see all the WTF's flying around.

Yeah, the inconveniences clearly outweigh the advantages here. I personally don't understand what you're trying to get at either. You'll obviously going to have a hard time to find every single part too. You'll need something like this .

One advantage is that most racing tracks are right corners..

My personal opinion is that right hand drive has more advantages than a left-hand drive.. race-wise

I say this mainly because I'm right-handed. Changing gears at high speeds leave you with one hand on the steering wheel and you've got to have a firm grip and accurate control over the car. You'll find your times on the track are better with your trained arm steering the wheel.

You've got to take things in the long rong though. Having a RHD normal road car in America would be just a hassle and you'd find yourself very irritated while driving. Also hazardous on the mountain bends.

You should try take RHD for a test drive on your favourite route. Maybe you'll like it or you might just see how much it is a pain in the ass!

I bet you wouldn't say that with a Skyline GT-R! But if you really want a RHD car. BUY A JDM ONE! I think having a RHD car that was already one is cool(Skyline...mmmm...)but just converting one is retarded. Not to mention it would most likely cost more than anyone would care to spend JUST to be on the other side of the car.

I believe (I know subaru agents) that most japanese cars are more balanced when in RHD form as they're designed RHD in the original blueprints.

I assume american cars will be the opposite

I agree with Diablo... the exhaust on 240's is routed down the left-hand-side of the car. Considering that the Silvia is hugely popular in Japan and Nissan techs probably expected to sell more there, it would make more sense to balance the car for a driver sitting on the right. This wouldn't be an issue on a daily driver, surely, but if you're building a race-ready Silvia converting to RHD might give you better weight distribution.

Or maybe I just don't know anything, considering I have a Civic and can only dream of the day I can build my own S13 Silvia. Personally, though, I think it would be fun and original to have a RHD car, and would be worth a few brownie points from the JDM-heads at car shows.
