![]() I'm looking to get a 240 soon, but trying to get a lot of information up front. I've learned a lot, but can't find anyone with an answer to this.
How would the 240sx tranny (5 speed), driveshaft, axles, and rear hold up to a welded rear diff? Don't tell me all about a welded rear, I'm familiar with all it's ups and downs. TIA. |

Sure you can. Someone ran a 150 shot of N2O on their 240sx, with a welded differential, and ran blistering 11.xx in the 1/4. He did, however, break tranny's. I think the best strengthener for the tranny would be cryo-treatment.

Welding the differential is making the rear axles connected, as opposed to bieng separated (open diff), or attached via gears, clutches or a limited slip silicon solution. The advantages of the welded axles are instaneous grip on both tires, and no maintenence. The dissadvantages are cornering, the inner tire won't have a speed difference from the outer, makeing the rear end hop around corners. That'll wear out tires, and greatly hinder handling. Welding a diff is usually a drag-car only concept.
