s14 before i buy tires, just wanna confirm with everyone

planning on getting 225/50/16

rims are 16x7 4x114.3 +40 offset

my suspension is KYB AGX w/ sus tech springs on a s14.

that setup will be okay with those tires right?

you may rub your springs/agxs with the tire since it will be bulged a little bit, but you'll more likely than not be fine.

With 16x7.5 +40 offset wheels and 225/50ZR16 tires I barely clear the springs... and when I say barely, I can't pass a finger.

On an s13, there's about 8 mm (guesstimate) of clearance in the front with 225/45r17 on 17x7's. As apposed to 215's the sidewall will be more stretched on the 225's, meaning it'll be stiffer, and allow for better turn in response, right?

baaaaaaaah... A 225/50 won't be 'bulged' on a 16x7. It's fine.

As for tire clearance with a 225/50 on a +40 wheel, I'm curious myself. But, it looks like it'll fit (just guesstimating based on my current huge baloony 205/60-15 setup with the stock +42? steelies). I think i've got 10mm on the inside to spare. I hope.

Judging by HaLos clearance (or lack thereof) I would venture to say that your chances of clearing are slim. Go 215/50/16.
Also, a 225 tire will bulge a little (depending on the tire) on a 7" wide wheel. "proper" width for a 225 tire is 7.5". It will fit, however, without problem.

215/50 is kinda short, I'd just suck up and go 205/55 if I was going to do that.

Look up the specs on any 225/50-16 tire. They use 7" as the measured rim width.

In fact, speaking of tire specs...
Let's look at a tire that comes in a buttload of sizes... say, the Yoko AVS ES100.
In 225/50-16 on a 16x7" rim its section width is listed as 8.9".
In 205/60-15 on a 15x6" rim its section width is listed as 8.2".

So the 225/50-16 will be 0.7" wider, requiring an extra 0.35" (9mm) on the inside than my current tire setup.

I think it should fit. It'll be tight.

All the more reason to get low-offset wheels

heh... you should go get some of that lovin' that your avatar is offering you!
I think your main problem is the WHEELS. If you can sell them (for more than you paid) to some accord owner and buy some nicer LOWER OFFSET wheels (and then hookup with the hot sales chick that sold you the new wheels), that would be ideal.

Hum... Doesn't the S14 have more clearance then the S13? I just stated my case without noticing that he has a S14...

Good point, HaLo... I didn't notice that either. I don't know if backspacing is the same as S13s, but I know that you can fit at least a 1/2" wider wheel/tire on an S14 than you can on S13... my guess is that backspacing is similar, though... but with even more room back there, a +40 wheel will just look worse (more sunken in... although some people like that look...)

If you want to be safe: go with 215.
If you're willing to take a little bit of a risk: go 225.

If you're buying a **** tire, go 225. If you're buying a nice sticky tire, go 215 (you reallllly wouldn't want to rub on a nice expensive sticky tire, whereas cheapos are disposable... to an extent.)
