wealth of good info, however quick reply: the piping is generally not bad for anything that will not be pushed to the limits (basically, if you aren't looking for much more than 300, maybe 350, you should be good). However, the turbos are generally accepted to be crap. Buy a name brand turbo (Garrett, Turbonetics, HKS). A used t25 from a sr20 or various other applications would be 300-500 and should be much better than some badly machined POS (not that that one necc is, but it may be and therefore it is better to err on the side of a name brand that has some gurantee that its products will be trustworthy). To all the ebay defenders, yes, it is completely possible to build a car that runs on ebay turbos for "over a year, man" and everyone has a friend who has done it. However, everyone also loves seeing the damage pictures of ebay moving parts. So: get yourself the kit for the piping if you want, acknowledge that the turbo will essentially be a throw away (no one is going to buy it) and get yourself a name brand BOV and wastegate to protect your namebrand turbo (worth every penny). Oh, and get your ass over to the link above (ka-t.org) |

Wow, that kit is POS! Your probably going to get flamed for asking something that has been covered a million times. I'm no flammer I just don't want you to buy something that is no doubt not worth the money. Just piece your kit together from the forums. Their are alot of good used parts on here and other forums.(ka-t.org,240sxforums.com,and fresh alloy.) I just finished my garrett bottom mount t25 setup on 6lbs of boost and I am totally happy with my Ka-t. It starts boosting around 2500 rpms and pulls pretty damn hard. And for tuning at least get a pretuned ecu they work just fine and will save your engine. I am running a Jwt ecu that was bought used locally for $300 off Houston240sx.com. Good luck!

Hello!
I do not recommend Ebay turbo kits for a KA. As I am a proud owner of a fully rebuild KA going turbo in less then 200 miles, let me share some advice. What power are you looking for in your KA? What purpose? Daily/drift? Is your engine a DE? When you turbo a KA, you have to be careful how you do it. Too many peole slap on a turbo and call it good. But then their engine blows are something and they get upset and say KA-Ts are not good. I beg to differ. If you are going to turbo your KA, I HIGHLY recommend a full rebuild with performance parts. Here is where I got mine. Automoto Sports Copyright© AMS 2006 Then I recommend some Brian Crower cams. 264 should be fine. That way you dont need to change out springs and such. 550 injectors 255 walbro pump Front Mount and piping You cant boost a tired engine and expect it to work really well, hence the rebuild kit. Once this is obtained, then decide on what turbo you want. For a good power range and to make good use of the rebuilt engine, I recommend a GT3071R. Some people say go t4, but to each their own. My reasoning with the 3071r is that you will have PLENTY of power and not harm your engine. The turbo is your choice, but i am merely offering suggestions. Then I recommend a ROM tuned ecu, tuned for you exact set up. You can visit KA-T.org for some GREAT info as well buddy. Time is fleeting and I must go, however, if you have any questions, or if you want more info, please feel free to PM me Here is my s13.5 thread to where you can see my engine and what has been done to it. http://zilvia.net/f/chat/223459-my-r...-5-thread.html I am both Kami Dori and s13.5guy in this thread. Account changed cause I shouldnt have been posting under a buddies shops name. Adam

Actually, Sr t25 can be bought for $100 to $200 all day long used. I picked mine up for 150 and it is in great cond. It has normal shaft play. No smoke at all. Take your time searching but first figure out your goals.

I'm currently running KA-T. Tuning is all dependent on what your HP/boost level is. If you plan on running let's say maybe 6psi on a T3/T4OE (what I'm currenly running) you can get away with running a FMU. I've heard that you can go as high as 8psi on that turbo without needing any sort of fuel management past the FMU. As for the injectors they would def. need to be upgraded. At the very least you should use some SR20 stocks. The stock fuel pump should be good up to about ~ 8psi. As mentioned you should def. check out ka-t.org. There's a lot of good information and plenty of ppl that are willing to help. When it comes to turn up the boost..OBD1 conversion harness and NisTune FTW!!!

aem ems hands down.
35 psi on a 11:1 compression KA-T with a GT3071 turbo you can't beat it If you are in so cal I know the perfect person and place to dyno. Price is alittle steep but you'd be guaranteed happy. |
