KA overheating, odd problem
so its winter time and my temp gauge was always fluctuating, either too cold, or normal operating temp.
so i thought my thermo was stuck open i buy one from autozone, open it up, and i dont have one. so i put it in, right side in, with the jiggle valve on top. run my car, overheats, no biggie, i jack the front up and bleed it for a while. after a while or so, still over heating, so i take the thermostat and put it in a pot and heat it up.. it opens.. i put it back in still overheating.. lower hose it cold, but the thermostat housing is hot. i take the hose off, and there was barely any fluid coming out.. i take the radiator cap and it just pours out of the hose.. is that normal? my car ran fine with the thermostat off, just cold and no heater.. ![]() |

you might want to check your water pump. take it off and inspect it. Also you may need to pressure test you cooling system and see if you have leaks. Thats where i would start.

My friend's S13 did the exact same thing. Turned out the cap wasn't holding pressure. Replaced it with an OEM Nissan one...done. No more overheating. |

the color was green, it was pretty clean.. like the p.o. said, he got it flushed.
also, when running no thermo, you can clearly see the water circulating.. |

so i went ahead and got another thermo from a different auto parts store, and instead of getting 50/50 for $8, i got some distilled water instead.
i put it in, drive it around, doesn't over heat. im like cool, i pull into the garage and let it cool. after a hour or so, i top it off and run it without the rad cap and with the bleeder loose.. take it for a drive, overheats again! wtf? im like fuck it, i pop the rad cap out and it was steaming, then i start the car, then a few seconds later it starts spewing water and coolant, so i throw the rad cap back on. drove it home to get some more water, but never overheated after.. i went around town, drove on the highway, and even went through a busy drive-thru and its fine. odd. |

really? ya there seem to be a lot of steam coming from that area. Hope that's it, wouldn't have thought it would be something simple like that.WIll give it a shot thanks.

ka is notorious for being hard to bleed. When bleeding jack the front up to help make sure that is the highest point and bleed that mother f*er till it the gauge is reading close to hot i used to have trouble with mine all the time. So ur not the only one.

Ya i will also have to try this again. How long are you guys keeping the bleeder open with coolant coming out? Also are you pouring coolant in the radiator at same time?
