How many pounds of sand bags for snow?

How many pounds of sand should I be packing in my S13 hatch the get better traction in snow and ice? Open diff and all season tires are okay for flat roads, but I can't do hills at all (without chains, anyways).

Also, how much worse will be back end swing out when slowly accelerating out of a corner? It's not too bad now.......

You're going to get sideways going up a hill. Countersteer and just give it a little throttle.

There's nothing you can do to make the 240 AWESOME during winter. [I personally love the way it behaves]

Turn up the radio, tell the other drivers to pass you if they dare and relax.
Man up brother!

I just want enough traction to make it up the hills. I don't want awesome snow driving ability.
Nice to see the quality of posts on this site go down the shitter. Probably why I don't post here anymore.

Well, their answers are reflected on their driving habit. Maybe you just need to try it out to see at which level you like it the most and leave it there.

Honestly I dont know if it's possible to put enough sand in the trunk of a 240 to make it go up hills like a fwd or awd car.

This is the reason why I told you how to deal with it.
Rather than making a new thread that has been covered atleast 6 times this season why not search or go get 10 bags and toss it in the trunks and see how it feels?

Just try to keep momentum. My car does fine until I stop and try to get moving again.

But WTF would you get sand bags for? Are you an old lady in a pickup truck?

^Yeah if you want to go around easier. I can't believe someone from nashville is worried about sand, we just got 5" today and my car is fine, I took my 255 wide 452s off but no sand bags, just drive man. I haven't gotten stuck in 4 years of owning this car (knock on wood)

The best thing to do is not drive your 240 in the snow, unless it's your absolute only option. People will hit you, you'll get stuck a lot, and salt will kill your chassis.

play sand comes in like 50 pound bags for about three bucks at home depot. i think the tube sand stuff comes in more solid bags, and the bags are a lot longer so they'd go the whole width. i'd just do two, maybe three.

but i've only been stuck once in my life. i parked on a really steep hill at this restaurant.... it snowed, i came out and couldn't get up the hill with the one tire fire. group of kids comes along and they all shove my car up the street without me even asking.

I use to daily through three winters, including the one where we had blizzards for three weeks straight with 2 50lb tubes of sand and winter tires and had no trouble aside from the 3-4 feet of snow on the ground.

Get snow tires, fuck sand bags.

Last winter I drove through a Canadian winter on all seasons, this winter I have blizzaks. WORLD of a difference. We just got a few feet of snow yesterday, I was plowing through banks and running circles around lots of fwd cars. Learn how to drive in the snow and with some decent tires, you should never have a problem.
