Auto Insurance/Totaling Question
I have a 1995 base model 240sx which I have put a decent bit of money into (SR20, 5 lug, Z32 brakes, TE37s, coilovers, control arms, bolt ons, etc). I recently had my car broken into. The theif pried the passenger side door handle out with a screw driver to get in, then stole my pioneer navigation head unit, subwoofer, and amp. While doing this he cracked all the trim pieces. So...
Total loss: Head unit, sub, amp - Value ~$1300 Total Damage: Passenger side door and trim pieces My insurance policy is comprehensive, has a $200 deductible for this type of incident, and covers up to $1000 for stolen items that are installed in the car. The adjuster just told me there is a chance my car may be totalled, depening on what they determine the price of the head unit to be since she had found prices for it online anywhere from $700-2000. I don't see why it would matter how much over $1000 it is since my policy only pays up to $1000. I also don't think the stolen items should be factored in for the value to fix the vehicle. If they were to take my car and give me a check for its "value" which kbb says is around $3,000, I would be taking a much bigger loss than if they just didn't give me any money at all and let me keep my car. Anyway, does anyone have experience with this type of situation? Any suggestions or tips as to what I should do to make sure I don't lose my car would be greatly appreciated. |
