Yeah. You'll lose power, but your car will probably be just as fast, because your wallet will be lighter.

Unless you advance the timing, race gas won't give you any power. With advancing the timing, maybe you'll make 5hp over stock for $5 a gallon.

Well if you are just bored and want to try it...get a couple of gallons of whatever race gas you want to spend the money on. Then advance the timing till you hear it ping and back it off a bit.

I can't tell you how much to advance for a certain type of gas...that is called tuning.

I wouldnt use race gas unless your engine is pinging or knocking. Other then that your just wasting money.

maybe race gas is different but when i drop a little octane booster in my fuel in my 81 malibu it feels a little more squirty then if i had no octane booster

And i can tell easily if someone put low octane fuel in my car like 87....

well, if he's talking about using race gas with an SR20, he'd just be able to up the boost a bit more "safely", that's all...

Race gas in a KA24E...

It'll run, poorly. Power will drop significantly, even if you crank up the timing.

Pointless.

It's pointless in a weak ka24e

You'd have a use for it with:
1. extremely high compression ratio
2. high boost
3. minimally with advanced timing

The way I have heard it explained is the more octane, the slower burn, and the more heat it can endure until ping's.. so that is why race cars with timing, boost's, nos.. so that they can run MORE or what they do already with out ping.. I have always been told to run the least octane with out pinging.. that will result in the best performance.. but whatever works for you..

one more thing:

C116 is leaded. run that and you'll kill your 02 sensor and your catalytic converter. yay! all that for .5 hp (after adjusting timing)

Thats about right(pretty close), the higher the octane the harder it is to burn, when you have really high compression/boost and then lets say you drop to 87 octane, the gas ignites under pressure/compression causing a "knock" or "ping" The higher the octane the harder it is to ignite.
