![]() I have an 89 240sx hatchback with the KA24e. I have to rebuild it or find another car motor. Will the ka24de engine fit in a 240 with the 5 speed from a ka24e? I need a straight answer from somebody who has tried. Please tell me something other than hearsay. I hope that I am not being rude, just tired of heresay from people (not you guys though, just people in general).

I'll just say it's been done before. My friend was about to buy an SOHC car for $400 and swap in a DOHC engine, tranny, and electronics.

Yes it works. It really depends on what car you get the DOHC out of. This is what I did to my car and I runs great now, but no one helped me do it and I couldnt find any info on it. In retro spec it is VERY easy so if you need help ask me and I can tell you. But it can be done and I would recomend it over a rebuild of the SOHC.

Umm.
I know that the tranny will mate to the engine.. but you may need to swap stuff. The ka-e has a larger clutch setup and needs a larger flywheel. I don't know if there are any other differences. I'd say get the DOHC tranny with the engine. Usually the price difference in just an engine to engine and tranny is about the price you'd have to pay for a new clutch ($100-150). And finally... PM 240racer on this board.. he's done the swap. -Jeff

![]() But, the parts car is a automatic and I only have my 5 speed out of my '89 ka24e project car. I thank you guys for helping thus far. I got the vlsd from this car and asked a question about what exact lube to use on it. That's what I get for posting in the chat. I am not stupid (I am a trained diesel tech major). I am a newbie to this forum, but know my way around any car. I know how rare these vlsd's are to come by so I don't want to mess it up. Thanks in advance.
