Help with suspension setup, for a Drag day
Hi guys.
I am not too much into Drag racing, and my car is mainly built for Dirft/Road racing, but there is an upcoming event, and i wanted to try my luck. Its a S14, SR20DET, 2L, with 457hp and 380lb/ft at the hubs. Its has Tein Flex suspension and all Kazzama rods etc, Mazworks Z32 box and CF one piece shaft. Enkei RPF1 17x9.5 front and 17x10 rear, with Dunlop Dirreza Z1 Star spec, 235/40 front and 255/40 rear. I was thinking of changing to the rear OEM suspension, to have the car softer, and set it to the stiffest at the front. What else can i do ? I heared that disconnecting the REAR stabilizer links, would greatly help. I allso heard something like that about the fronts as well, but i cant see the logic in that. Can anyone explain, how would dissconecting the Links (Front or Rear) help ? Another thing i was wondering about, is the pressure i should be running on the rear and front.... As these are basicly street Gtip tires, and not DRAG - i guess the stiff side wall would not be ideal, but still - thats what i have now. I would allso try to set up my Haltech's launch controll - but not sure to what launcj RPM i should aim for. Any ideas ??? Any estimation to what times i should be looking for with the above setup ? Thanks. |

i have no idea how to answer your question but one thing i do know is no one can answer how much RPM unless you tell us what engine you are running, and maybe where the red line sits at (not sure if redlines important). or well, yea i have no clue heh.

remove rear sway bar.
lower rear tire pressure as you go. ex... start at 35 psi and go lower till you find a good pressure where the tires hook up nicely. if your running street tires there is no need for a long smokey burn out. spin the tires just to remove the dirt and anything else that was picked up. as far as RPM launch its all up to the driver. some like to launch off the limiter some like to feather the clutch just depends on you and your tire/HP. for street tires just rev it to about 2500 to 3000 and see how it responds. |

Do i need to remove the Rear Sway Bar completley, or is it enough just to disconnect the links ?
How about the front Sway bar ? any benefit in removing the links in the front ? Any idea what kind of 1/4mile ET should expect ? |

most muscle guys remove the front sway bar when drag racing. some remove the rear and some remove them all. you dont need to remove it completly just disconnect it. try it both ways and find what works for you. |

Sorry but removing the rear swaybar on a drag car is a no no. I work for a suspension company that specializes in stock suspension drag racing and we have extra large/overkill sway bars for the rear of drag cars. You want the body of the car to stay level coming out of the hole so there is no seperation/compression of the body causing the axle to rear steer the car into the other lane or into the wall.
To the OP just leave the swaybar on in the rear. |
