![]() Ok what do you guys 1. like/2. dislike about the US drift scene, and 3. who is your top 3 favorite D1 drivers? Why?
1. Very friendly people (those who I actually know more than just a 'hello' especially). Surprisingly good considering our "newness" to the sport. FOr example, watching old Options vids, we are about consistant with how the D1 drivers were about 3-5 years ago. Not bad, imo. 2. JDM-this, Drifta-that trendZ in impoRt society, yO! Grrrr. I think it is also horribel to hear people booing other people at Drift Showoff. Especially since some of the peopel booing were waiting in a 2hour long line to get into a car SHOW! Ugh. I also don't like how many uptight people who are concerned with competition and winning/i'm better attitude. 3. Koguchi, Haruguchi, Kumakubo. Koguchi is so fast and accurate, also his car control, imo, is unrivaled. Haruguchi has some of the craziest, wild slides. His sidebrake technique is crazy and throttle modulation is great, getting his car to rotate and stay sideways as he wishes. Too bad his flashiness comes with the inevetible mis-coursing. I love how he uses everything from the outised edge of the track (dipping a wheel and/or losing his rear bumper and outside sideskirt) as well as getting the apex and losing his front bumper and inside sideskirt! Man BN Sports has their hands full with replacements for him! Kumakubo: WHat can you say? After watching many videos last night, this dude rocks! He uses the whole course like haruguchi, but he does not have his S15 slammed or all FRP'd out like Haraguchi's FC and FD so he loses less parts. The thing I like most about Kumakubo's style is how fluid he is, in contrast to Haruguchi's flashiness... ANyway, this is out of pure boredom, and I hope I get flamed from Duffman or someone because i am "imposing" drifting on the masses and not letting them think fo themselves... ![]() |

rolfmao. ok im at work and bored as hell (notice my 10 posts in the past 1/2 hour)
1. im friendly people! serious! 2. i hate booers. so poor. get out there! no reason for that, in any instance. everyone's there to learn 3. fav drivers. koguchi. mad skills, cool guy, self funded, very expiriemental and 11 years of drifting is obvious. haruguchi is just nuts. guys' got some crazy and big balls going on. his car matches his personality as well. just a nutty guy. lots of throttle control throught the drift but his sidebrake/initiation is just insane. taniguchi. yeah flame me. guys' a prick and a dumbass but his skill is extremely impressive for the rich boy. his braking drifts ands initiation is SO DAMN SMOOTH is crazy. he's very calm on the track and keeps him mind clear. also does the JGTC and seems to do pretty well. i stll liked his car when it was just red and not the HKS one. bleh. drifting is abotu HAVING FUN. its about learning your car and limitations. i'm glad to know to learn how to drift and still learning. you never know when something happens and your car goes sidewasy..a year ago i'd have died, now at least i can feel how the car moves, control it and maybe save my life one day. its also a cool way to meet lots of nice people and just have a great time and chill. not many big egos or personalities. everyone is friendlyl and laid back. ask dorifto, he met a lot of the so cali drifter at march 2nd drift showoff and it was cool as well. keep it on the tracks! |

Can't really afford the tires bumpers ect. that really learning how to drift requires you to go through. Also I sold my vlsd.
Someday I plan to get more into it, and if Oni can pull off this midwest drift even I'll be there, hopefully with another vlsd. |

1. Drift buddies
2. Is it just me, or are we getting less and less actual track time out there during the events? 3. Izumida, F*cking reckless. Taniguchi, cocky and arrogant dick whose skill probably exceeds Doriking and Manabu(Yes, I really think so). And of course, Koguchi... Precision drifting to the finest.

Dang it, that's the one that Richard/Dave hasn't got yet... However, I am still surprised to see that anyone can be so smooth every in car vid of Taniguchi that I've seen thus far. Koguchi is smooth too, but something about Taniguchi's smoothness... I think it's b/c he's a prick... But yea, gotta give it up for Izumida. Bastard in s14, yea!

I dunno. I think Orido is the best. Wish he would drive more. Watching him toss around other peoples' cars like it's nothing is really really impressive. That and he's in GT500. Taniguchi sucks even in GT300.

Drifting in my area consists, of me and two other guys. thats it. nearest drift event is in englishtown coming up. Were deffinatly going to go but until then were stuck trying to find the safest places to practice. <Flame killer gun out>
![]() I very much dislike how the east coast drifting scene is different from you guys in cali. There are so many uneducated people around here it's not even funny. Example. Saturday night I roll up to our local car spot/ parking lot whatever. Everyone crowds around my car and starts asking me questions. One guy's like "your a drifter right" I'm like "how can you tell?" Expecting him to comment on my flat black paintjob and mismatched wheels. He goes into this long speech about how he drifted his civic on the highway at 3 am racing some prelude and how now he thinks it's so fun and he's so good at it. You wouldn't believe what I hear everyday from people. they think just because they can pull their ebrake and get sideways for a half a second that they drift. I'm sick of it. But there are a few people that respect the sport and are educated. the few that drive 240's go figure ![]() ![]() vent mode off ![]() As far as D1 drivers I don't know em by name but by car. My favorite's the guy who flew out to cali. I watched him in that new grip video. 180sx/s15. When he did that close 360 around the cone and into a turn I stood up lookin like a fool in front of my friends and was like "I can do that! I can do That!" lol Last edited by Foxcolt; 03-18-2003 at 11:16 AM.. |

I'm in the same boat as Foxcolt, only worse. In a town with literally NOTHING but 2 state colleges within 8 miles (WSU and U of I), there's 98% riceboys/girls here. That's it. Surprisingly there is one other guy in town that has a SR in his 240 besides myself, but aside from him and a few others, it's neon this, and chrome fender trim that, and vinyl as far as the eye can see.
I too get the occasional, "damn y0, that front mount CAI is stupid fly!" Sometimes I actually correct the guy and tell him it's an intercooler, not some crappy APC wannabe part, the rest of the time I sign and make sure the turbo whines as I drive off. To be on topic. 1) I like that people who actually do drift (any real method, not ass dragging), and have done it enough to wreck (like myself) have a different respect for the skill required than those who have pulled the eBrake thru a corner a couple times. 2) I hate the stigma that follows "drifting". People that don't know about it have all the pre-conceived notions that it's a cross between a car show and racing, and it P|sses me off! |

1. i think its cool that more people are getting into it. i also like how most of the drifters seem rather nice.
2. i guess i dont like that there is no real track. it would be cool to have a a drift circuit somewhere here in southern california. 3. hmmm i havent watched any videos for a while but i like,in no paricular order... a. Haraguchi( i think this is his name), the guy that drives/drove yellow FC with BN Sports aero kit. i just love to watch him get so sideways and having his sideskirts and bumpers break off. b. i really like Koguchi but i havent seem him in too many videos, but i did se him in real life and that was way better than any video in my opinion. c. ken nomura because he is so funny. i love the way he smokes the tires all the time.

Izumida is crrrazy! Him, Kumakubo, and Akinori (Orange FD right Aaron?) are good buddies. In vol. 104, Izumida and Kumabubo have such a good multi-round battle and they are both smiling all the way. Good fun! Thats probably one of my favorite things about drift: Can go out with your friends and try to "out-do" each other in a non-competitive fun way. Ahhh good times...
![]() If you guys have vol. 103 or anyother more recent Ebisu rounds on tape, watch how close Kumakubo gets to The Wall. in-fu_kin-sane! ![]() ![]() |

Aaron rents them from the little Japanese video sore by him, and then copies 3 of them onto a VHS for me! Heheh. Other than that, I got a bunch off of ebay.

1. i like the people cause it's a nice positive atmosphere at the event's usually, i think it's the respect factor that someone is taking a interest in something u are as well and making the strides to learn and pay the price with their vehicle.
2. FWD drifters!!!!. like my best friend(PHLIP on this board) and i discussed a few weeks ago, drifting is not a FWD activity. roadrace/circuit, fine. drag race, super. autoX, alrighty then. all those i can fathom, but u cannot convince me a honda civic can drift. sorry to vent, but i take it to heart cause in my NC city there is actually a "drift" team that consists of: (drumroll please....) honda CRX, honda prelude, acura integra, and a honda del sol. i guess people feel they have to be "apart" of everything except simply having a respect for it or going the proper route of being apart. 3. ALL OF THEM. i'm not going to pick because i jus like seeing the talent these guys have for doing something they seem to love to do. nothing like seeing the best to inspire ya ![]()

Ok, flame me, whatever. I'm a noob at this.
But drifting is just insane to me. Its such a rush, just watching. Seeing some guys get sideways at 60MPH and be able to control the car, just blows my mind. Its a scene I'd love to get into. I'll be in SD for the next four years or so come this summer, so I'm hoping to go down there some more knowledge about drifting and techniques, and try it. Alot of the drifters here seem to be respectful when it comes to information about it, most of the time. ![]() |
