Tial 35mm Question
i just got my tial 35 mm in the mail today
![]() one on the bottom.. and one on the side right above the bottom one... now from my understanding, the one on the bottom is the one that mounts to the manifold...(the one where the valve closes it off)... then the other one should be vented into open space... correct me if im wrong... also if it has to be vented to air.. where would be the best place to vent it to other than the downpipe? and the kit cam with an O ring.. is that a necessity? what is it used for?? thanks *ryan |

The bottom opening mounts to your manifold, and the other is either left open or mounted to a flange that loops into the downpipe. I personally prefer to loop the discharge back into the downpipe. This eliminates the annoying exhaust flutter noise that occurs when the wastegate opens. As for the O-ring, it's used to provide a tight seal between the manifold flange and the Tial flange. You should use this.

thanks Gwong...is there a problem with the flutter?? or is it ok..
cuz i plan on leaving it just open... but will there be a downside to leaving it open as opposed to plumbing it into downpipe? |

The cap (big anodized part) is the spring housing. The opening opposite it bolts to the manifold. That O-ring is necessary, and $35 for a new one, so don't drop it down your exhaust pipe *cough* like I did *cough*. Don't worry.. it got fished out.
That O-ring seals the opening of the piston, which is the part that actually controlls the boost. If it's not there, the air would escape around the piston, and you won't make boost. As far as leaving it open.. I suggest it. Boosted said that he was going to run the wastegate open a while ago, but that may have changed. I ran mine open. It's really loud when the wastegate opens, and heats up the engine bay, and stinks (because unburnt fuel dumps out of there. I bought a flange and am going to weld a pipe onto the flange, and run that pipe behind the cabin. That should eliminate the loudness and smell, and heat problems. I don't know how I'm going to hang it, but if worse comes to worse, I have coathangers. Actually, I think I have a spare exhaust hanger, so I'll use that. -Jeff Edit: What spring do you have? If you didn't special order one, you may have a 6.5+psi spring. If you need a weaker spring, I have one.

no the 6.5 spring will be prefect for my current setup thank you though..
is there a certain place on the manifold that the wastegate has to sit on? i ask because my turbo is going to be top mounted, and i kinda want my wastegate to show... most people have it under the turbo (if the turbo is top mount) or vice versa... is there a downside if i were to place it on the side of the mani?? |

On every manifold I've seen, the wastegate is 90* from the turbo. You don't really have a choice, either, since the manifold is premade.
My RevHard manifold is top mount, and the wastegate is sticking straight out from the block. It's not very showy.. and I don't see a way to make it more. -Jeff
