sr20det power steering help!!!!

so i traded my sc300 for an s13 with an sr, and it came with the power steering pump and resevoir, but nothing else. so i looked everywhere to complete my power steering set up, and finally today, got all the parts needed. it was just one thing after another!

anywho, i just put on the belt, poured in lucas power steering fluid, and found a tiny leak where the high pressure line bolts up to the actual power steering pump. so i tightened that down, and no more leak. i kept adding ps fluid until it was full. i turned the wheel left and right and did that for about 10 minutes to make sure the resevoir was full. i even jacked up the front of the car to make rotating the wheels turn easier.

i took it for a test drive and at first, it felt like it was still a little stiff, and then got a lot better, and then after about 1 minute of driving, turning left and right in residentials, it was like i didnt have power steering anymore.

so, my problem is, i dont know whats going on with my power steering. ive never had a car without power steering before, but trading my automatic salvaged title sc300 for a clean title s13 with an sr (with mods) was too good a deal to give up. i just didnt know that the power steering fix was going to be a pain.

could it be a bad power steering pump? i have an extra power steeringpump one my friends gave me but its off a dual cam. ive been told it works, but any other sugestions before i have to completly dump out all my NEW power steering fluid and swap in the ka one?

any info would help!

thanks!!!

it's not that much work. get vacuum pump and drain the fluid out. then hook up the lines and refill. it could be that the pressure relief valve is stuck open. how long did the pump sit dry for?

maybe it is a seized pump. bad seals and it leaks..

if you get a PS pump for free.. what the hell swap it.. KA PS works, but the pulley is big so youd have to swap the SR PS pulley to it. and youd need to use the bracket. and use ATF fluid, i use to use lucas and STP PS fluid. but that was the reason my seals blew when i snapped the PS belt. AND i also got schooled here on zilvia that S13 PS pump uses ATF fluids..

goodluck

Sounds like its just a bad pump overall. Just change it and you should be good to go.
