ok I have a nissan 240sx 1990 with a red top sr20det,now i need a new transmission, Idont know the year and there are s14 and s13 transmissions so how do i tell the year of my red top?

With a little research you can learn alot.

Redtops came on S13's

Doesnt matter much, get which ever SR tranny, they are pretty much the same. Speculation is that S14s are stonger than S13 trannies even tho they have the same exact parts number. Only thing you have to remember is the change the speed sensor in the tranny if you get an S14 one, you'll need your old S13 sensor to plug and play.

the only way you can really tell the year of a redtop is if its got the front fins like a blacktop head. if it has the fins...its a 93'.

to the first guy, i did research just could not find anything alot of people talking about it but not about the year.
to the second guy thanks, so its just a plug and pla for the sppe sensor? are the gearing different? thanks for the help have had a few 240's but this is the first with the sr, so trying to learn as much as i can as fast as i can lol

All the same tranny, hell the KA tranny is the same shit, just different bellhousing. If you wanna go cheap, get a KA tranny and swap out the bellhousing with youre SR and you have an SR tranny. Only thing is KA trannies got more sensors on it. Just plug what you need, reverse light, neutral sensor and speed sensor.

ok cool cool thanks for the help man i think ill just fo with the s14 i have the money and now that it is smoged i dont want any corners to be cut so here it go's. ill prob be posting alot here soon, lol.
