Hi, new to the site, and about to try and get to work on an SR swap into a 90XE i picked up.

i was wondering if any later model S13 cluster will plug in place of the 90 HUD that i currently have, since i will need to swap tachs for the SR swap.

retaining the HUD isnt necessary, id be content just putting in a regular 91-94 cluster if it will plug in and function just the same.

a Silvia/180SX digital cluster will work (read only in km/h though)
a '91-'93 240SX digital cluster will work

Or, you can get just the tach out of either one of these and swap it into your existing cluster. The tach out of an analog cluster won't correctly fit into a digital cluster and vice versa even though they look the same.

An analog cluster will work IF you also grab the short instrument panel harness that goes from the cluster to the main harness.

Ok, thanks. so basically any 91+ cluster will plug in if i grab the harness that ALSO plugs in with it? im basically just trying to stay away from doing any unnecessary wiring if i can.

yep yep. no wiring really necessary, just plug and play.
