Rear Sway Bar Question on base s14...

I was wondering if you can put rear sway bars on the base s14s because the SE, LE have stock rear sway bars and the base doesnt. Can it be added easily or do you need to buy extra stuff to make it fit? Thanks

I'd assume so, because the cars are mass produced. So you'll probably have holes where the sway bars bolt up, but no brackets. You'll need to rape a junked 240sx for the sway bars and brackets and bushings though.

if you buy aftermarket sway bars, then you should be ok. i installed my friend's suspension technique sway bars and they came with eveything you need, even lubrication.

I'm just concerned about the mounting brackets. There are 2 upgrades to the SE swaybars.
1) Make them solid. Stupid hollow SE bars.
2) Make them larger.
The second option should come with it's own mounting brackets, or at the very least, some new (thinner) bushings. I don't really know what comes with suspension.. but he'll definatly need brackets and bushings for whatever he gets.
If it's stock swaybars or solid stock bars, he'll need brackets and bushings, because it wouldn't really make sense to sell them with same-as-stock stuff.

Yes, i have a base s14, you can do it. I installed front and rear whiteline sways on my car.

1) if you buy Suspension Technique or Whiteline sways, it comes with all the bushings you need. But since you have a base, you also need. (2) mounting brackets, and (4) bolts, go into your nissan dealer, its fairly cheap. You can also use the stock se rear sway bar, i'm sure plenty of people have those lying around, but be sure to get everything you need.

2) unfortunately, i found out the hard way that the holes the bolts for the mounting brackets may or may not be threaded on base models. What i mean is that the holes are there, but the bolts may not fit. On my base 1995, 1 hole on each side fits perfectly while the other didn't. You can either use a drill to thread the hole to spec, or what i did, is I went to an auto parts store and got a couple bolts of the same size but different thread patterns and just used whichever fits. Whatever you do, don't overtorque when you do this, it screws everything up...

I own a 95 base model, and installed an OEM rear swaybar, everylast hole is there and threaded. All you need is the swaybar, "D" bracket, bushings, endlinks, and the 4 bolts. I was lucky enough to get the endlinks along with the swaybar pretty cheap from DSC (thanx again ). The brackets and bushings I ordered from the dealer for a total of $30, and the bolts, I just went to PepBoys and got bought a couple of stainless bolts until I got the right size for like $4 after I returned the ones that didn't work. It made a noticeable difference, a simple mod that I'd recommend all the time.

yea you can fit a rear sway bar easily. i have the suspension techniques and they're great. they come with everything EXCEPT for the bolts. i just went to a junkyard and took 4 bolts from an se's rear sway bars. everything just bolted up perfectly with no problems whatsoever.

its up to what you like/want, you really can't go wrong with either.

ST: cheaper than WL, lighter, better end links than WL
WL: beefier than ST, adjustable, heavy

Its your car, go with whatever you like.

My subjective preference is Whiteline because of the adjustability. I have yet made a change to settings since installing them, but i like the fact that I CAN if needs be for whatever reason.

yea, i'd probably say the whitelines for the adjustability, but if you can live w/o that (i think most ppl can) the st's would be great. i got them because there was a pretty good deal on them at enjuku. either way, you can't go wrong. sway bars are awesome.
