Axle leaking grease?
Yep. Smashed my car (S13) into a wall on my driver's side. Ended up demolishing my tension rod, FLCA, RLCA, toe rod, and bending my subframe. But that's another story.
When I went underneath to inspect/remove everything I also swapped out my welded dif for my open (no more dorifto for me ![]() I've been driving for maybe, 400-500 miles since then without any noticable noises, grinding or clunking or anything. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out a) wtf leaked out of my axle haha, b) did I damage anything, c) how bad is it to run around on an axle that, potentially, has lost a majority of it's grease, d) what can I do to fix it, as in, can i get a new boot and repack the joint or do i need a whole new axle. I found this: http://zilvia.net/f/tech-talk/96731-...le-grease.html and now I'm worried haha. I was wondering if anyone could provide some more situation-specific insight. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

The CV joint is filled with 'dope', a thick, heavy grease. An impact can pop the rear cover on the axle loose or even off, allowing the grease to leak out. I'd pull it again and see if there's continued leakage, replace it if there is.
