Critique My Turbo Setup
My end goal from the ka-t is 260 rwhp by August 1st. Intial setup will be run at 4.35 psi on stock fuel. Install date is June 15th, and then upgraded fuel and boost on July 15th. Let me know what you guys think I could go differently on, etc...
This is what I have, or buying this week: *Garret T3/T04b stage III wheel, .63 ar exhaust, .60 intake *Eclipse Sidemount Intercooler *Stainless Steel oil lines and appropriate fittings *16 gauge mandral bent steel u bends for intercooler piping -Appropriate clamps and rubber hoses for intercooler piping *Greddy Type S bov -Steel hardlines to retract to intake Tial 35mm wastegate *JGSTools Exhaust manifold *Greddy s14 sr20det downpipe *Injen sri to cut up for intake (thinking I might just sell sri and buy an apexi power intake and maf adapter) *Autometer Ultra Series Mechanical Boost Gauge *All steel flanges for bov, turbo, ect. This will be put on one month after turbo install and boost pushed to 10psi. JWT ecu *370cc injectors (already have) *Walbro Fuel Pump (already have) Apexi GT Spec or Greddy DD turbo catback -Replacing HKS Super Dragger n/a catback (already have) Autometer or Greddy EGT gauge (probably autometer) Greddy Turbo Timer Spearco or Greddy FMIC .65 Bar wastegate spring *Turbo XS Manuel Boost Controller I want to put down 260rwhp with this final setup, then attack suspension a lot more in the fall. What do you guys think of my setup (soon to be)? I put an * mark by everything I have already purchased.

Since you have the 370's, the hacked MAF might be a decent temporary solution just in case you get a boost spike and blow the engine. With the JWT, you might as well get a z32 MAF or something, so sacrificing the stock MAF may not be so bad.
Up to you... 4psi is pushing the stock system... no room for error there.

Yeah, I been researching it, and reading about your setup a lot lately, but I just don't know if I would feel comfortable enough to hack it. Especially since I don't have any type of a/f gauge or egt guage yet. I figure since I've kept my engine up to date (including belts), I should be okay. One of the reasons I bought the eclipse intercooler was a temp. solution to help prevent detonation. I just won't really push the system (i.e. no autocrossing or drag strips) till the 370's are in with the jwt ecu. One month for a break in on the turbo system till I get to the point I really want.

yeah. just that going without ANY sort of addition to the fuel system with such a large turbo seems like a recipe for very bad things....
it's also very true that hacking the MAF should only be done if you understand the principles behind it, so that you can tune it and adjust it as necessary. there's no better way for the $$ though ![]()

In reference to the original question. working up to what you want in stages is a good way to go. That way you don't have as much risk while you get all the bugs out of your system. I assume you are going to install the Walbro fuel pump even if you run the stock injectors. I would be carefull I have heard that the stock FPR can't handle the flow and that will make the fuel pressure raise which will cause you to run rich (not a bad thing for a turbo) However, it only causes you to run rich at idle when you aren't using much fuel, because once the injectors are using more fuel, then the FPR can keep up. Are your 370 injectors for the stock fuel rail? I would try to run those somehow. I am using a S-AFC which I picked up for $250 to lean it out a little at idle. You can sell them pretty easy when you decide to go with the JWT or you can keep it and run it on that to tune further. The eclipse intercooler should provide enough help to keep you okay, the DSM's run that one at 11psi and 200hp. One other thing, I would look into whether or not the 370 injectors are enough for 260rwhp. I don't think they are at stock fuel pressure, you will have to look into what they will do if you raise the fuel pressure. If I were you and you were doing this in two stages, with the first being stock injectors, I would just skip right to 50lb and cobra MAF for the JWT program.
