I was wondering how wide of tire i can go my friend has 225s and he wanted to sell them to me for my s13

depends on the wheel its being mounted on.  225 should be able to fit, barely, with the right wheel

225 will fit fine with the right rim width and the right offset.  I've heard of people running 235's.  I have 225/45/16's on 7.5" rims, but I can't remember the offset.  I wouldn't put them on anything less than 7.5" rims.

So it wouldnt go on my stock rim?

I can't remember the stock width.  If stock is 6.5", NO.  If stock is 7.0", well....yes but I really wouldn't recommend it.  If you use a tire that's too wide for the rim, your sidewalls point inward and the handling gets mushy.
