![]() i have an s13 blacktop sr20det. after 3 years of saving and fixing the problems that my motor had when i got it, the car finally runs. ive takin it out on a few test runs and i thought it would be alil faster. 1st gear is really bad it doesnt seem like the motor has any power until the turbo kicks in. is this just the way these motors are or do u think there is a problem i sould look in too.

nope thats just how the engine is because of the low compression ratio on the pistons has no power till like 4grand then it falls of at about 6grand

^^no, not necessarily. my car felt n/a till 4k rpm then power, which is wrong. check timing? Miines was off by half a tooth. just in case you might want to look into timing issue i had,http://zilvia.net/f/tech-talk/224840...st-4k-rpm.html

The sluggishness you feel is just turbolag. If it's a stock motor with a stock turbo, you should feel the power surge around 3k rpm. Turbo hitting full boost around 4k sounds more like the GT2871R turbos.

sounds like your BOV may be getting stuck open OR your wastegate flapper is opening too early not creating enough boost as well as not spooling early enough.
you got a boost controller? what kind of BOV? try as a test to temporarily remove the BOV. cap off the BOV flanges of course and the vac line for the bov. you won't hurt anything without running a BOV for a few test runs (i daily with no bov lol). |

Your base timing is probably incorrect.
Make sure you find the black diagnositc loop wire on the back of yoru coil pack harness towards the firewall. HOok up your timing light to this then check your crank pulley while the car is idleing at 800-900 RPMS after warmed up. Unplug your TPS Sensor, then check the CAS timing with the light, then set, then plug TPS back in. Your TIming needs to be 15 BDTC or 2nd mark from the exhaust side if you are standing in front of your engine bay. If this is too retarded it will feel like your turbo never kicks in or your car is lacking in the balls. Timing is HUGHELY IMPORTANT on srs...and this is why I make money with my tuning mainly focusing on the art of timing map craft. Hope this helps my friend. ![]()
