where did the meister / sp1 wheel originate?

who made it first?

or I should say.. who designed it first? I know it started as an idea on someone's drafting table... in a small prefecture in japan...

it's not an especially original design... 5 spoke wheels have been around forever.

I think it was designed around 2000.

heres a shirt of the history of ssr wheel design:
SSR Limited Edition T-Shirt - SSR Timeline

also, the Garson Deep Racing looks almost identical to the sp1's... not sure which came first though.

Garson's are made by SSR so they are not knock off of the SP1.

garsons are different in that they dont have a stepped lip and like dousan said, i think you can pretty much choose your offset with meisters... with the sp1's when i ordered there were set offsets, not sure if you can make custom offsets and for 2 18's and 2 17's it was like 2200 shipped... man i miss aspec logan

I don't particularly like Garsons, they look a lot chunkier/heavier than sp1s/meisters. SP1s look more refined (with the recessed bolts), but I like meisters for their aggressiveness. I am biased though

what ive heard is that work came up with it first. then speedstar (SSR) made a "version" of it for cheaper. basically similar but not exactly the same. may or may not be true.

here are some observations

ssr sp1 vs work meister

also check out other speedstars for a laugh

SSR gt2 vs Nismo LMGT

SSR d5r vs volk GT-C

SSRcomp vs advan RG

dont get me wrong I love speed stars. they make good strong wheels. but wow.

rota probably just changed the design enough so they havent been sued yet.
