I sometimes come up with schemes to make a quick buck when the funds get low, here's what I came up with today...
Car has been DIRTY since we went to the dragstrip (approaching 2 weeks ago, so for the first time ever, Steeles can say his car is clean and mine isn't) and of course it's time to wash it. My landlords also own a salon, which happens to be next door, so instead of waiting til later to wash the car, like right before work, I go outside at 8:30 and get all set up (they open at 9) and take to the task of washing my baby. First client comes in about 9:15, driving a dodge caravan, goes in the salon, 5 minutes later, phone rings:
Lori (landlords wife, runs the salon): Phillip?
Me: You bet
Lori: my client wants to know how much you would charge to wash her van, clean the windows and shine the tires
Me: 20
*pause*
Lori: Can you come over here?
*hangs up and walks over to get the keys*
20 bucks in hand, I'm done before she finishes getting her hair done...
I get back on my car, second car comes, new camry FILTHY. Chick walks in the salon and then my dog starts barking, she's coming across the yard,
Lady: You wash cars for money?
Me: I can
Lady: 20 bucks?
Me: Sure
Lady: *hands me the keys*
Again, I'm done before her hair is done, she gives me the 20, gets in the car and comes back and gives me 5 more.
Now MY car is clean, but it is mine, it is time to make love to it: I break out the Scratch-X, polish and gold class wax, but here comes a Z06 Vette, she doesn't go in the salon before coming over to me.
Leslie (I got HER name): Busy?
Me: Little bit, what's up? I haven't started yet.
Leslie: Looks good
Me: Thanks, but I'm a bit anal, she's not done yet, not even close.
Leslie: How much you charge for this?
Me: wash or wash polish and wax.
Leslie: Everything you are getting ready to do to yours?
Me: Well, I hadn't applied a price to it, I don't do this to everyone
s car, and its free to do it to my own. (did i mention that this chick was FINE and driving a Z06?)
Leslie: 50, 60?
Me: Saturday at 9am?
Leslie: I'll drop it off. *goes in the salon*
---but the story ain't over---
I give up on the prospect of finishing the detailing of my own, I'll do it sunday afternoon, I park the car in the yard and come in the house to watch por--... Er, cartoons, and the damn phone rings AGAIN.
Lori: You up to another 20?
Me (knowing I have work today): Why not? They ready now?
Lori: Come get it

So I wash the car and collect my 20... I made 60 bucks in about 3 hours AND got the 2 weeks of dirt off of my car, all by design. I used the fact that the salon was there and women don't seem to like to wash their own cars and will pay good money to have it done, along with the fact that my own was dirty to make money, which I will likely turn and blow on something for the car anyway. Long story, no moral, but I felt the need to post whore this morning.

sounds like a GOOD idea.... I think I'm gonna try something like that.... did you have a sign or anything? or did people just walk up to you and ask you to wash their cars?

chit mang if your gonna set appointments and such we should get the whole crew over and all make some money. I need extra cash too! lol

zspturbo: No, I didn't have a sign up or anything, but there is a clear line of sight from the front AND side doors of the salon to my backyard, and we share the driveway, so I can't be missed when I'm at it, they all walked up or had the landlord's wife call.

silnv: She has my number, I will try and get hers saturday morning, and eventually work my way up to DRIVING THAT DAMN CAR.

Steeles: Why would I let someone else in to make money I have no problem raking it for myself? Besides, if I let you come in and make the money, I would never have enough to get your hood and skirts. As it stands, my next check will have like 30 hours of OT on it and I should be able to do it then.

more workers more work more money. dont think of it as us cutting into the biz think of it as an expansion...

that is a pretty good ideal philp. The only thing I can think of is to make quick money is to do valet parking. I did that this past saturday and made a misely 20 bucks in tips. I did however drive a Porcshe for about 30 yards (but was automatic).
