![]() I was having a discussion with my friend about crazy modifications that haven't been done to an s13 yet... he then said that people should be careful to not hack them up because these cars are getting rarer. So we started arguing as to what makes them so special. He posed a pretty good question that I couldn't really answer all that well:
What car could you buy in a price range of $4,000 or less that can be as versatile and functional in drift, track, drag, or even rally like 240sx's are, while still being able to get tons of cheap, affordable parts. He said name 3 cars, I still haven't found reasonable answers to this question...discuss. |

Who gives a fuck? They're old economy sports coupes. They aren't rare. There's still ridiculous numbers of them, stock and otherwise, on the roads.
Besides, if you care about them being valuable someday, you should buy a perfectly clean stock one, restore it completely, and then make it a point to destroy as many others as you can. The less there are on the road down the line, the more yours will be worth. Oh, who am I kidding. After the 240 trend goes away, these cars won't be worth a damn thing, regardless of how few there are left. And with that, cue Dave, to bust in here on his soapbox and write a novel about how the 510 was once a mass-produced economy car, but people treated them badly, so now they're rare, and the cleanest examples can fetch a whole 15 thousand dollars! ![]() |

I dought the S13 can get out of style. Look at how people still mod old cars or restore them. But even if the S13 gets old. Theres still the S14, S15, 300zx, 350z, G35, 370z.

i don't think the 240sx will go "out of style" but i do think it won't be such a bandwagon within the next few years.
personally i can't wait till i can afford to pick up a z33 for only 5-6k (probably in pretty beat shape) and make it my track only car. |

Lolz
I didnt have a 240 before everyone due to the fact I was too young to have a car. So im not going to claim to be OG. I did get into the S chassis and drifting back in 03 04. The price of a shitty 240 is was really gets me. I agree with everyone I dont think these cars will become some rare car that collecters will want. At least I hope not. |

lol the only ones that will be rare are the ones owned by people like johnny (crimsonrocket) just due to overall cleanliness and low mileage.
in another 10 years there will still be a multitude of beaten down primer grey shitbuckets with welded diffs smashing into whatever is nearby *coughmariocough* |

^or guys like Norm
![]() The great thing about all the beat to shit buckets, is that there ARE so many. So if you want a track car, or a shell, it will be cheap and available in a couple years. And there are SO many clean 240's driven around by older peeps. I have 3 parked on my one block alone. trying to "save" these cars is a joke. They are in abundance, and will be. Dave, whats the ratio of 510's brought into this country compared to S13's? |

Yeah I must say I dont think the 240 is going out of style anytime soon. Theres always going to be those kids out there on a budget that want a "race" car when they turn 15 or 16. We wont be seeing the g35's or 350's in the 5k price range for another 6 years must likly. I do agree in about 10 years there will be hardly any 240's around to buy reason being is ppl just fuck them up and instead of fixing them they just cut them up or give to a junk yard. So for everyone who just thinks there still going to be finding a running s13 for 1k on ever coner in 10 years ill be the one laughing at your ignorance.

Oi! Tell me about it. I bought my first S13 back in '03 or '04 with 117,000 miles, SE power everything, sunroof, etc. for $2000. After two years enjoying my daily '07 WRX, I got bit by the bug again and recently bought another S13 with 265,000 miles, power nothing, and lots of door dings and other problems for... $2100. FML. Fortunately, I have a short commute to work, so reliability isn't a concern (and I still have my WRX), so hopefully, this car can be the project car I want it to be. I have high hopes, and there are more affordable S-chassis parts than ever. Plus, these cars are so easy to work on, it's ridiculous. Anyway, if I ever do get rid of this car, there will be more projects in the future. A Z33 would be fun and offer more modern comforts. And then there's always the old-school guy in me who wants to build a '54 Chevy chop-top, and a '66 chevelle, or a '67 mustang, or a hooked-up BMW 2002, or an E30 M3... it's endless!

I think some will be worth money in the future. But not any the fucked up drifted ones.
I'd be more then willing to pay a pretty penny for a stock Lavender Frost Metallic at some point in the future. Hell I'm hoping to find a super clean stock white coupe sometime this year and I'm expecting to pay a pretty penny. A friend of mine has a fully loaded Pearl White 95 with 29k on it. I'd imagine in 30 years that car will be worth quit a bit if he hangs on to it and keeps the miles down. Basically I disagree that they won't be valuable at some point in the future.
