Jumpy Tach

Okay, well the first gremlin since my car is back on the road is a jumpy tach.

It was working fine until a few days ago then it started operating about 500 rpms higher than normal. Then suddenly it just started jumping all over the place.

Well I had a spare so I swapped it out last night. Now it's steady on acceleration and idle, but it drops suddenly on decelleration. If I sit and rev it, it takes a few sudden drops from 4500 to idle speed. But once it's at idle it's fine, and the gauge is actually reading the correct rpms.

Any thoughts? Could I have a damaged/loose ground or worse....the ECU? I don't have any other problems with the car other than a bad alignment.

Thanks in advance guys.
