My 1992 S13 Drift Car Build up

So I started this in September of 08 and am almost finished with the build. I rushed into buying the best deal I could find on an sr swapped s13 chassis, and make it to VD07 and got the car a week before the event. Unfortunately it had a R32 front end on it, but It made it through the first even easily. It's not quite up to the caliber of some of the builds on here, but my main goal with this build was to do one event every month and work on the car between events. So far I have gone once a month since Sept 08, haven't missed one month!!!

here is the car as i picked it up, I rushed into buying it cause I had registered for VegasDrift 007 with no car and a week out I had to make a choice, the cheapest SR'ed 240 I could find, I was brand new to drifting and looking int eh wrong places, lol. found it on Autotrader.com

engine bay wasn't too pretty and it had a stock sidemount boosting less that 6 psi.

interior was classic ugliness

started the stripping process

picked up some seats for a pretty good price, should have bought one really nice one instead of two decent ones, but CFinch admonished me too late... live and learn , some say do it right or do it twice, i need to do it twice to really learn...My cat approved of the seat...

cage installed by Forrest Wang from Full Race, amazing work.

started painting the cage and interior, I am a big fan of rattle can, anodized blue all the way on everything, and I mean everything as u will see..

cage taped off painting the interior, rattle can of course...

much better all black

new hydraulic ebrake from powered by max

enlisted the help of Tommy Suell to install the hydro ebrake, I bribed him with Mcdonalds fish Sandwiches

finished product, very happy with it

finished interior

blew the tranny at JustDrift as I was missing the drive shaft loop. So I go t a new one and a B & M Short Shifter

put in a Kaaz 2 way LSD and got my suspension stuff in. Stance GR+ Pros and battle version all the way around. Tein tie rod ends and s14 inners. Need to go SPL soon for the tie rods, and do the steering knuckle mods for max angle, that will be soon also.

stock shit and shitty eibach sport springs on tokico bluse, sold on zilvia to get some money back

replaced with suspension hotness

front mount installed, can now boost 13 psi!

new turbo S15 T28

finally swapped the font end back to stock

and painted the car VegasDrift Blue...sparco hood pins and B magic aero all the way around, now I have a carbon fiber hood on but no pics of it.

car was great at Vegasdirft Primm

Pulled the motor to install new turbo, greddy oil pan and oil cooler, nismo motor mounts. Rattle can the engine bay, hi temp flat balck.

new turbo installed with circuit sports lines

oil cooler on

painted the valve cover

painted some Hannabi's I picked up from Smerf, thanks man, again rattle can

engine back in with painted intercooler piping, new z32 MAF and Greddy intake, new pulley kit on,
new fuel injectors installed, fuel rail painted cause I can...seem to never run out of rattle can paint

ECU installed. Got the new Circuit Sports Downpipe on. Meagan test pipe, and HKS Hi Power Exhaust all on

installed sensor for AEM wideband

and finally got the subframe spacers on.

also I got the rear stainless steel brake lines and clutch line on. I am going to z brakes after this event so I didn't do the fronts. I am hoping to get a little better response on the rears with the hydraulic ebrake now.

thanks for looking, see you at VD10 first event with the T28, 550's, Blitz SBC I-color boost controller, and Enthalpy Tuned ECU, 16 psi!!!! Oh man I can't wait...

which?

if u mean the action shot from Primm, those fenders have already been replaced with wide body ones. When I swapped to the stock s13 front end, Andys Auto sport sent me the wrong over fenders so I had to snag two super fast to make the primm VD event with a front end, and the passenger side one I got was dented in, from the previous owner's door hitting it. If you mean the first pic, its the r32 fenrders. other than that I dunno...

Not bad, especially for the multi-colored abused s-chassis from Ebay.

Keep it up.

I'm glad you went back to the original front end. I believe this car was for sale in Socal at one point. I remember seeing the R32 front, or maybe it was another car. Keep it coming!

Yeah this is the same car I bought it in San Diego about a year ago. Next thing is changing everything over to AN fittings under the hood. I will post some updates and more pictures after this weekends VegasDrift event. The blue is just my own expression of individuality and I much more concerned with how the car performs that how it looks. Its the 10 foot rule, a drift car should look good from about 10 feet away. I did sand and primer almost everything I painted, and also lots of layers. The whole car is rattle can inside and out.

i know its a track car but i think you could have made it look a lil better or better taste in its appearance lol, or kept the r32 front end since it makes the car unique compared to the sea of s13s lol
i mean you spent some $$$ for a sick ass cage and all, just to half ass on the spray can choice

if you're brand new to drifting and only doing one event a month....I wouldnt be spending so much money....get a feel for the car...drifting isnt all about power. But at least you got an S15 turbo and didnt do like I've seen people do and slap 2871R .86(why i donno) or gt30's on and go drifting. Either way, you got a good basis to build from and you're almost where I tihnk you should be. Good suspension, fresh chassis and not an overkill in power.

P.S. If you were boosting less than 6psi with the sidemount, its cuz your turbo was trash, my sidemount is awesom at 7psi and works great til a about 11 then it heat soaks

I think the paint on the cage looks phenomenal, especially in person. The anodized blue is very nice. Most importantly, the cage is not for looks, but function.

I have only been at it for a year, but trust me I am better than some who have been doing it for 3-5 years. I am a really fast learner and have been driving and flying my whole life. I will actually be entering the Formula D Pro event qualifier in Vegas this year in July, so the work I have done is completely within reason to my driving ability. I needed to get the car Formula D legal and fairly competitive. In fact, I already have an engine rebuild and larger turbo planned for next year.

here are a few more pics and a video link form this past weekend.

Video Link
VegasDrift 10 LVMS on Vimeo

New part to be installed this weeked:

Full Race Manifold!!! I have to pull the turbo because I forgot to install the oil restrictor on my turbo oil lines, and since i have to pull the whole thing I decided to get the mani as I got a really good deal on it. Brand new it is $949 i paid much less from Forrest so I had to scoop it up. I also just ordered a Greddy 3" turbo elbow since that was stock too and the exhaust is 3". I decided to go with the Trust/Greddy one cause of the flange to separate the wastegate form the exhaust which I am told helps to reduce turbulence and increase flow, plus I ahve a lot of other Greddy stuff so why not.

Right now I am sourcing some black braided lines to install my new Sard FPR with AN fittings. I also got the pressure sensor for my sbc i-color boost gauge so I can read the fuel pressure in the cabin, and will still use the one under the hood for adjustments.

Last, I need to put in the steering rack bushings. I wish I would have opened the box for them sooner and saw that they are slotted and slide right over. for some reason I thought the tie rods had to be disconnected and then they went on. I wuold have done this much easier a few weeks ago when the motor was out. Live and learn.

I will post pics of all this as the work gets done.

LOL no it came anodized blue!!!! LOL

that was even before I painted the car, i really do like anodized blue...

I am going to redo the valve cover, so it looks more anodized

her eis my new turbo elbow and Sard FPR The FPR also has a sensor attached to read pressure in the cabin on my boost controller.

I also have black braided hose for all of my fuel lines now, that will be going on this weekend as soon as i figure out my new manifold clearing the outlet pipe

and yes that coolant line will be relocated.

so work from 8-6 but got out late and got home bout 7 started working on car. Pulled the mani again and re clocked it. I was really surprised but I was able to rotate it enough and still get the actuator to reach the waste gate. Luckily that little bend in it allowed me to twist it upside down and it reached the the waste gate. Put everything back on and it all fit! I was super stoked.

I tried to turn the compressor as much as possible and still get the actuator to reach so that the coupler wouldnt touch the manifold and just melt away, and surprisingly the intake still fit fine.

here everything is mocked up, still need to bolt the manifold all the way on and hook up everything else, power steering and intake and what not.

I tell ya though that manifold is a work of art!

and the new turbo elbow:

at least I am 3" from turbo back now.

tomorrow I will finish putting everything back together and also install the Sard Fuel Pressure regulator and convert all of the fuel delivery lines to black braided hose and AN fittings. If I have time I am going to do the steering rack bushings. That is the last thing I am doing before the 626 drift comp at Balcony on the 15th, then I got invited to represent VegasDrift at Collinf Frost's Spirit Drift in LA April 15th and the week after that VegasDrift at Buffalo Bill's in Primm on the 25th. I won't be doing any work until after the 25th. Then I will be going to z23 brakes and converting the oil catch can and power steering lines to black braided hose and AN fittings. I will also do the changes to the LCA and spindles for the increased steering angle.

Still looking good.

Funny how people are freaking out about how much money you've spent, though you've just got all the basic goods (besides sick full-race mani) and are buying quality parts.

I'm glad you know what you're doing. So many people don't.
