Review: 2way Tomei Technical Trax LSD

I've had the Tomei unit in my car since March. I purchased this used already installed in the pumpkin, but here is an idea of what is included in the Tomei T-Trax LSD. (picture from jspec.com)

6 clutch plates per side, so 12 clutch plates total. The T-Trax Advance uses 10 plates per side, so that would be 20 total, 4 more than the Nismo SSS . Supposedly, the Advance clutch disks are specially surfaced treated and makes the differential real smooth. And because of that, the differential is really quiet. My T-Trax? The opposite, nice and loud.

If my interpretation of the Tomei website is correct, the T-Trax is 1.5/2way adjustable by changing the pressure ring.

After installing the pumpkin, (the person that installed it had it broken in professionally) it felt kind of funny after I broke it in the first time with the new fluid, so I did it again. I'm currently running Redline 75w-90. Probably going to switch to 80w-140 to see if there is any improvements on the track. The Tomei is pretty quiet for the most part as expected, but she does like to whine and skip on the low speed turns. The car is so much more confident and predictable on the corners at higher speeds.

If you haven't gotten in on the new rage, go get it now! LSD is the $hit.

1.5 and 2way are not adjustable by the torquing but rather the casing design.

yeah 4 more. depends how tightly packed though and the torque breakaway will set up how rough/smooth/gently the LSD is.

dousan when you say casing design do you mean the casing of the pressure ring itself? that would mean complete disassembly of the lsd to change 1.5/2 way. does the t-trax advance have the same design just 4 more plates per side?

i see, so basically the lsd can be ordered 1.5 or 2way. changing would require getting other pressure ring casing and disassembly

for the SSS just dissasemble the guts and change it. blammo, done.

for other LSDs..but a new one haha.

sss has BOTH 1.5 and 2 way (with disassembly)
and 3 ADJUSTABLE breakaway torque settings.

so its like this

1.5
soft breakaway
medium breakaway
hard breakaway (like locked diff)

2 way
soft breakaway
medium breakaway
hard breakaway (like locked diff)

so you are basically getting 6 LSDs in one!

other LSDs are not inferior
a LSD should be purchased based on its use for you

you drift? 2way LSD (brand is your choice)
you drift and f*ck around w/ stufF? like me? enjoy dropping diffs and changing things? SSS is the way
drag/grip? quaife
street stuff? VLSD/s15
street and some drift? 1.5 way/s15
auto x/grip? 1.5 way/s15

etc etc
those above are just MY opinions. but you have to choose what you NEED for what YOU do.

research and education are key
