My 300zx build

Well since it's up almost everywhere else lol here it is: Since I'm trying to catch up on about a years worth of posts I'll just go ahead and do the slim version instead of showing every single pic. I'll put up a mods list at the bottom so you can get the gist. It's about 99% done, just waiting on a few more fittings and extra nylon braided hose for the coolant lines and oil lines, then just need to make the IC piping and get it tuned. So without further ado, here she is in fall of 2008:

Mods list then:
GMS chip
SAFC-2 (with single AEM uego wideband)
manual boost controller @ 15lbs
JWT mild cams
K&N filter (that's all the z's intake upgrade consists of. just a filter)
FMIC
2.5" divorced downpipes
2.5" test pipes
2.5" HKS Hiper cat back
RPS 6 puck spring hub clutch
Fidanza LW flywheel
Unorthodox under drive pulley

horsepower was around 400whp on stock turbos, stock injectors with the cams. (have a video of me pulling on a friends pullied 04 cobra that dyno'd a little more than 465rwhp, so around 400-405hp is about right in that range to beat that car.

then on my birthday of 2009 the motor decided to blow. Basically the passengers side was detonating bad, I'm going to assume because the timing was thrown off because the DS head had a much lower deck height then the PS head (which I replaced with an old head when a pin on the JWT cams snapped and bent all those valves..didn't even think to check the deck height). Which then led to this:

fully built bottom end, tig welded counter weight. fully balanced rotating assembly to 12000rpm

BDE top feed fuel rails with modified lower plenum, RC 1000cc injectors, -8an fittings

JWT R5 cams with JUN adjustable intake cam gears

Supertech .5mm OS valves (inconel exhaust, black nitride coated intake), dual valve springs, Ti retainers, Ti seats, manley Ti collets

gasket and port matched lower and upper plenums

58mm CNC'd throttle bodies (vs stock on bottom)

lots of head work, lots of material removed lol. Ported/knife edged intake/exhaust ports, bowl/chamber work, 5 angle intake valve job, radius exhaust valve job, bronze exhaust guides.

custom manual steering rack

garrett GT3071R-WG turbos .64A/R with 14lb wastegates, kit custom build by me.

2 aem uego, 2 EGT, 1 ops, with greddy boost on A-pillar

to

shaved/repainted engine bay (Done fully by me)

sparco mugello steering wheel

I'll post up the full mods list later with more pics, i actually have to run out now :x

enjoy!

thanks guys

as for numbers, race gas + ~37lbs I'm hoping to break 900wheel. Pump gas I'm guessing will be high 600's, would be ecstatic to break 700 on pump @ 22lbs though, but we shall see. There have been a few guys with these turbos making high 800's but they do not do a full build and are not set up for maximum efficiency, so we'll see how it goes! I'll put some more pics up on Wednesday I should be getting a good bit of work done then.

Great looking build. My question is what brand gauges are those 3 blue ones you have? They look nice.

they are actually the glowshift gauges. Seem very high quality and pretty cool. Since they are just EGT and oil pressure I don't need the recall or any of that fancy stuff. The things seem pretty similar in build quality to my greddy boost gauge, and I've read a lot of threads on various forums where people have compared them to Apexi, Greddy, HKS, Defi, etc. and the glowshift gauges are dead on with accuracy and response, so definitely worth the price.

I can't believe through the pics I forgot one of the most important things!

Haltech platinum sport 2000 with 5 bar map sensor, IAT sensor, and closed loop boost controller. Boost by gear? oh yea will definitely help when fighting for traction.

also here's the first test fit of the motor:

that's about when I realized I had to shift the rack over about an inch. The DS turbo was resting on the steering shaft. Had to cut about 3/4 of an inch off the heim joint threads, and 3/4 inch off the racks tie rod to be able to shift everything and have the proper toe adjustability.

as for my exhaust, it is AMS 3" expansion down pipes with 3" resonated test pipes which funnel down to 2.5" after the resonator (last 2 inches of the test pipes are 2.5"). I am running this as my full exhaust, and will be making two 2.5" turn-downs for right after the resonators. If it is to loud for me (which I doubt haha) I will add a second resonator on a removable section (which would only be used for long drives like car shows at the beach- if i decide just one resonator is to loud for a 3 hour drive)

I should have the motor in with the trans hooked up to get the proper motor angle on wednesday, which I will then be making the IC piping so I'll def snap some pics then.

also for shits and giggles here's some videos of the car on the old set up:

YouTube - 300ZX compilation
just a little fun short vid

YouTube - cobravsz.mpg
Me vs my buddies cobra. (from his car)

YouTube - Z v Cobra
(from my car) Sorry for quality. He had my vid camera in his car, so the one in my car was from my GF's digi cam on video mode.

and these are just some vids from the GFs digi cam one day- taken after the cams just mainly for exhaust tone purposes.
YouTube - z6
YouTube - z 3
YouTube - z 2
