Suggestions anyone, about a welch?

..Almost a year ago, I sold off a second engine I had to some one, not to mention any names, 'Darrel Tanap' and well, he welched on paying off the amount agreed on. I wanted to know what the overall opinion would be on how to resolve this. I've been pretty lenient under the circumstances with current events and he even involved his girlfriend but she even backed out. I wanted to put this out and learn what others may have to say about this.

I've got the check that he stopped payment on about the same time he got home with the engine, plus several Email messages promising payments that were never delivered.

I'm pretty much at the point of getting a group together and either demanding money from his front door or repo'ing the car.

He's affiliated with the military as well, so I was considering that as something else to do. I had started thinking about court but I'm looking for a more immediate solution. So, I was going to gather some friends and S13/14 drivers, make a road trip and try to finish this.

Yeah, he's military, a Sea Bee reservist out of Port Hueneme. I've already talked to the Navy there, so they know but they have been less than cooperative on helping. So, that's why I was going to make a visit sometime and either ask for the cash in front of him or get with the local autorities there and make things happen that way. I'm trying to keep things personal. He made it personal by stiffing me, so...

if you do file anything against him, file it in your home town. that way he has to come to you or default. still trying to get money myself so I know how you feel. only in my case it is my brother in law and over stereo equipment. family always further complicates matters like this. good luck

Hmm an employer not wanting to help get involved in a employees personal faulk-up, that's just odd. If the incident happened was work related then I can see them getting involved ie he wanted the engine for a vehicle to be used on-site. But if it's a personal matter then you've pretty much already stated you know what to do, either get it from him personally or get the local authorities involved.

Dishonest people suck, they make trading/selling online more difficult than it needs to be. I truly hope you stick this guy for everything he owes you plus the time and effort you've had to invest into this.

I put the post out here to learn what others think or had to say. I am going to do what I can to get what he owes me, that's definite. Losers like this are the reason there is so much worry when it comes to online or personal sales. I was trying to be positive about it when I made the sale but I guess losers are everywhere.

"more immediate" solution than court?

Driving over there win intent to bully him into paying you. . . I don't expect it to end up working out too well. That can backfire waaaay too easily and end up with you being on the wrong end of the law. Best bets: See if you can contact whichever officer is in charge of his unit (rather than his enlisted superior). Threaten legal action. Commence legal action.

this is to easy.. call a collection office.. they will make him pay you full amount and he will have to pay them for getting you the money.. all they will do is call his sarge.. and then he will be forced to pay a certain amount each check.. my friend had the same problem.. guy wrote bad check because he was switching bases in two days.. they tracked him down and he payed around 900 for a 700 check.. dumb***... incase same guy he had a tan 95/96 240sx auto.. heh wouldn't be suprise if it was him..

I'm not sure and I have no way of knowing either. He tried to and then later dropped off the face of the planet. If the guy you're talking about is in the navy, anything is possible. Losers do run in packs most of the time. I hadn't considered a collection agency. That sounds like a good path but how reliable is it? There are people that get those letters and just throw'em out. I am looking to get my money within the remainder of the year. I'd prefer that anyways.

Judge Judy brotha......Judge Juuuuuudy...

Seriously, I have had the same problem, with a 350$ Bass Guitar. I don't have time to jam anymore so I sold it to my homie....two years ago. I have no documentation. Im still good friends with him, but his budget is skin tight, and he's always donating to his mom for the house and ****. I dont bug too much.

BUT he did just get a raise...sooooooooooooo

Still, get the collection agency involved. Make life easier, ever see those hardcore faukers on Discovery? Theyll steal that **** right infront of him... he he he

cliff notes: Judge Judy, Bass, Raise, Agency, Discovery, Hardcore
