Ecu problems ?

I'm having issues with my car.

I was driving it today and All of a sudden the gas doesn't work and my rpm starts jumping like crazy and the car just turns off. I pulled the trim off where the ecu is and I see smoke coming out very very little. I'm guessing the ecu is fried.

I got another ecu but I don't know how to set the little knob behind the ecu . I plugged the old ecu in and the light is red. I don't know what any of this means . If anyone could explain to me how to set the knob clockwise / counter clockwise etc and why the light is red on my old ecu I'd appreciate it.

Thank you .

If you fried your original ECU then I would suggest that you figure out the reason why your ECU get fried before you plug in another one.

Pop the lid off your new ECU and if anything is roasted.

cool i just left my car there at the shopping center for the night gonna open it up tomorrow and check all the wiring.

thanks for the inputs, i appreciate it.

i was doing some research and found this thread.

http://zilvia.net/f/tech-talk/68145-...noise-x_x.html

my ecu did make noise, i'm still doing research and hopefully i can figure it out, the light on the ecu is red, the cel light is on and everything, i just don't know why it won't start, i'm gonna look inside the engine bay and see if any wires got chewed up.

it was probably a bad ground that fried, i'll check it out tomorrow, if anyone has any advice on what i should do id appreciate it.

thank you!
