Fuel Problem Help!!

s13 w/blacktop sr20det, walbro fuel pump and z32 fuel filter.

Every time I would turn the key in the ignition, I would hear the whine of the fuel pump before starting the car. Just a couple of days ago I noticed that my fuel pump sounded very weak as if the battery was almost dead but it wasnt. I could still turn on my car and drive but Sat. as I was driving to the track, the car would hesitate and not let me rev (pressing the gas pedal did nothing) and then go back to normal and then do it randomly.

I checked the fuel pump fuse, the wiring to the fuel pump seems good, so I am thinking it is probably a clogged fuel filter? Would a clogged fuel filter turn the fuel pump whine into a weak sound as if a lot of fuel isnt getting pumped?

Possibly my fuel pump might be bad?

Any input would help greatly before I buy something that isnt necessary. Thanks in advance.

well if you now your getting good pressure at least 60psi with hose pinched, and you get at least 1 quart of flow in 30 seconds then you know the pump is good 99.99%.
If you put your volt meter at the terminal where the wiring goes to the pump and you check your voltage while you have someone move around all the wiring from battery to the trunk then you can eliminate bad wiring. You could also pull out the pump and check to see if anything is in the tank such as dirt, sugar, and whatever else could clog up the pump. Usually when the pump isn't sucking anything in it will be louder. Pull the pump assembly out and inspect the wiring there also. If you haven't replaced the fuel filter do it now, its nothing hard to do even a little kid could do it, you don't need to wait till problems start happening, replace your filter periodically.

^x2. Assuming your fuel pressure regulator is good.

If you have ever ran the tank low or went empty it will cause your pump to go weak or not even work. Fuel pumps actually run hot, fuel is suppose to be a cooling agent to a pump. When almost any electrical pump is ran dry it will cause it to burn up.

Changed the fuel filter ad the fuel pump and they are not the problem.

Maybe its a sensor? I have a newer style ecu "f4" and cant check the codes. Any ideas?
