question on cas internals

I bought a used crank angle sensor for my redtop build.

we opened it up to find that the thin metal disk on the top is slightly warped.

(not completely flat)

a friend said this could cause detrimental damage to the motor. Is this true? would the motor just not run properly?

is this common? will it cause a problem? and is the part replaceable or do i need to

buy a whole new cas?

thanks in advanced.

Its not common and might be a problem

The disk is not replaceable.

Spin the CAS and listen and feel for contact.

It MIGHT be alright if you dont detect contact

its not making contact with the black point (the car part that reads the disk)

Is it ok if its not making contact? Or will it still cause problems?

thanks

hmm cant really guarantee to you, due to liability reasons.

You could read the inspection criteria in the FSM and test it accordingly

light shoots through the holes and gets picked up by the reader, I can't remember so good when I took it apart, but I see no reason for it to make any contact to anything.
This engine your friend blew because of this sounds very interesting topic, I think you should start talking about that and post some pics of how the CAS blew his engine.

what we are saying is if the disk is warped enough, it could make contact with the reader, which only has a few cm clearance on either side.

i have no pictures or solid info on the motor blowing. he spun a bearing and assumed the bent cas ring had something to so with it because after the rebuild it still ran like garbage until he replaced. theres no real info on the subject so i decided to ask.

someone help me out!

so either straighten it or get another one, cuz this rubbing is like tire rubbing on fender.

Your friend blowing the motor over this is a joke. Just like my other friend that said him and a friend built an engine and a hair got stock between the cam lobe and caused the stock engine to open the valve just a bit to much to hit the piston.
If your CAS isn't reading then you won't be getting fuel and spark. You'll be getting misfires, because it can't detect RPM. When a tire is rubbing on fender something is wearing down, that is the same thing as your CAS, if it's rubbing something you will have wear and tear.

just incase anyone searches on this.

The bent disk did not allow the cas to work properly. It was causing the coil packs to fire wayyyy late, and not allowing the car to start.
