What are the chances of blowing a headgasket with a 1.3 bar radiator cap?
After my adventures with the cap here:http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.p...threadid=34081,
I want to know if the head gasket is at a high risk for blowing when using the 1.3 bar cap. My car has 194k on it, but runs quite strong. I know that the hoses would be at risk for blowing now (since the water pump will be sealed well), but I'm very worried about the headgasket. So, what are the chances of the head gasket actually going kaput?

But the gasket is a part of the cooling system. I'm trying to find out if a gasket with 194k on it can take the increase in pressure brought on by the 1.3 bar cap. Obviously the water pump seal could not, and I'm rectifying that now. The hoses seem to be in good condition, so they may hold. The headgasket scares me, because I don't feel like doing a tear-down and rebuild, nor do I have the time for one. However, I do want to take advantage of the better cooling the cap will provide.

to be a little more specefic than duff man, 1.3 bar is like 20 PSI, max pressure inside the cylinder is something like 3000 PSI. you have nothing to worry about there. if anything, you'll blow coolant hoses or a hole in a weak spot in your radiator.
