Dmax Coilover Write up

i just installed some Dmax coilovers in my S13 and this is my review. 1st off, i took a chance with these coilovers not knowing to much about them and the company. i was hoping that these coilovers would preform and preform well. i spoke with Dmax USA and they told me more about the company and how they are pretty much a drift oriented company. they also said that all their drivers use the same exact coilovers i could buy from their shelfs,a pretty bold statement there if you ask me. Considering the fact that most professional drifters or pro-am drifters ask alot from their coilovers to preform. . . After seeing the coilovers in person you can definitely see the build quality and their use of great materials. the front coilovers actually use steel perches for extra regidity and the rears use aluminum for its regidity and lightness. The welds are super clean and neat. And when it comes down to adjustability , this thing can be super tweeked to what ever you need to do. the fronts have camber plates and it also has the ability to add camber with the upper bolt on the front perches(similar to a centric bolt). So if you need super DEMON camber then this is a coilover you might want to consider. i will be running a 17x9 +0 offset in the front of my car so the camber is definitely going to come in handy.

take a look at the pic above and you can see the upper screw hole thats adjustable.

comparing the two

Camber plates

Installed.

After i installed it i took it for a spin around the block and to my surprise it was really nice. Comfy at the softest setting and really stiff on full hard. Since i drive this thing every now and then i like it set at full soft. i've taken a few people on ride alongs and they all like the way it handles and drives. i've taken the car on a few spirited runs on and off the freeway on ramps and what not around the block and all that good stuff, and i must say the coils are very responsive and predictable. they are not bone jaring stiff either . they seem to be real progressive when it comes down to dampening. Dmax has made a great product here. These coilovers Rock if ask me but, the next thing for me is a drift day . once i get some seat time at a drift event i will upgrade this thread with my thoughts on its performance at the track. Now as far as getting them rebuilt, they do not do rebuilds because they do not have enough support to deal with it. so insted they will just replace them with new shock bodies if it is under warranty. And if it is passed the warranty period, the customer will be charged to replace the blown shocks. So there is definitely support for these coilovers, and they are local in Socal , Torrance Ca. to be exact.

Dmax Coilovers Range From $1200-$1500 (i Purchased mine from Driveline and picked it up from Dmax USA)

Specs on My Car
S13 Hatch
-Nismo Power Brace
-Steering rack bushings
-New Front LCA
-Tanabe Rear Swaybar
-5 Lug conversion
-Z32 Brakes (front only)
(needs an alignment so no Camber, toe, or caster specs)
But i will have all this info as soon as i get it aligned and counter weighted aswell

COOL. It's nice to finally see a write-up on these coil overs. I am really considering picking up a set of these as well, but I am a little hesitant since not that many people rock these coilovers.

Thanks for the writeup.

I've been running these for a while now. I LOVE them, expecially for how much I paid. They do exactly what I want.

I was looking for a coilover that wouldn't destroy my internal organs on the streets, but could be stiff enough for some good drifting.

These definitely went past my expectations. I love them! Good job to DMAX.

Also, I have a ton of camber in the front.

Sick sick! I just picked up a set of these for my s14 that should arrive on monday. I'll be sure to either add to this forum to give other people the low-down or just start my own. I checked the coils out over at the dmax booth while i was at d1 and I must say that upon visual inspection they've made a quality product.

i have been running these coilovers for about 3 months now and i fucking love them. they are by far the best coilovers i have ever driven on in any car. they are great for daily driving and they fucking rock at the track. you will not be disappointed when you go out for your first drift day on these.

nice writeup, I bought these same coilovers last year very satisfied and on top of the great build quality they also offer a very quick and cheap(around $100 per coil iirc) turn around if you were to ever need to send one in for a rebuild and since I'm in So Cal it's even quicker heh.

The PBMs are a more track oriented coilover from what ive read on-line. as far as stance goes its pretty mixed. i've heard the first gen stance coils were not as good as the current ones available , and that really hurt them coming out for the first time. i've ridden in stance coilovers and they feel kinda stiff at full soft, but not bad for daily driving. its definitely something you would have to get use to. With the dmax it drives so smooth that if the road was smooth you wouldn't know you were on coilovers until a bump comes around and thats when you are reminded that you're on something aftermarket.

i forgot to take a picture of this feature close up , but it can be seen on the first picture on the far left coilover......damn ohh well i guess i'll take a better pic once i put my new rear tires on. But yah this is the other cool thing about these Dmax coilovers , you can see how low you are lowering the coilover without having to guess. the only thing i wish they did with this is put the sticker on at the factory rather than making the buyer put the sticker on themselves to give you an idea of the drop. Numbers next to the lines would have been cool too, but it works.

From the looks of it this is a quality product. It doesn't look anymore like a Ksport than any other coilover does.

My fronts are all the way down, with all collars in tact. The rear can go lots lower, but I don't have suspension arms that can clear the subframe, etc. I need to remove collars in front, maybe raise the rear a hair.

I just slapped mine on today! I've gotta get the ride height dialed in better tomorrow. Upon first impression of these coils, I would say that you could totally daily these things on full stiff if you aren't a woosey, but I will play with the dampening tomorrow as well. Also, I'll be hitting the track on sunday so I can post up my track experience with them.
