Strange Problem With Pop-Up Headlights. Help!

So, I'm kinda new to this whole thing, so it'd be great if you guys pointed out anything that I'm doing wrong on Zilvia. Anyways..

So the problem is with the pop-up headlights on my 1989 240sx. When I turn on the headlights, the drivers side goes up, but the passenger sides goes up then down into sleepy eyes kinda. When I turn the headlights off, the drivers side goes down, but the passengers side goes down then back up into sleepy eyes again. No matter what I do the passenger keeps going back into sleepy eyes position. So I checked if the brown wire for the button to the left of the steering column was cut, and it is. Could that have anything to do with it? Would it be fixed if I reconnected the brown wire?

Please help me out! I been looking online through forums and other tech support threads but have not found anything as specific as this.

Any info would be great. Thanks.

yes connect the brown wire. or it may also be that the motor is out of gear for your head light. connect the brown wire first and if that doesnt work then check your motor for the light

Ok, so I just reconnected the brown wire, but the problem isn't fixed. I'm sure the motor is fine, but when you say "out of gear" what do you mean?

Sounds like the arm that comes off of the motor might not be "aligned" properly.
Disconnect the arm(for the passenger side headlight) at the motor. Then operate the up/down switch so that the drivers headlight is up. Then reconnect the passenger side arm to the motor with the passenger side headlight in the up position as well. The arm should be pointing straight, not bent.

How do I go about disconnecting the arm? I ask because I don't have many tools in the house and I don't wanna get halfway through and realize I don't have whats needed to finish the job and end up having to put it all back together. Lol.

It's easy. Especially if you don't have big hands and arms. You need a phillips head screwdriver to remove the plastic trim around the headlight and a 14mm wrench(not positive on the size) to remove the nut that holds the arm to the motor.

Ok. Luckily I do have fairly small hands and I'm not sure if I have the right size wrench, but I'll check it out tomorrow. I'm currently studying for finals. I'll update you guys about it then. If I don't have the right size wrench, would a smaller adjustable wrench work? Sorry for asking, but I haven't taken a look at it yet and I'm too busy/lazy to go downstairs to my garage to see. Lol.

Ok. So I just adjusted the arm and it works like a charm now. Thank you everyone who pitched in to help me out. Especially to Rice for shooting me that info.
