Opinion needed re: paint

Not sure if this belongs in that paint thread or not, so here goes.

My car's going in for paint tomorrow but I haven't decided on what colour to paint it yet, though I have it narrowed it down to two. The car has already gone through a full paint colour change (apart from the interior) and was painted BMW Imola Red II. Last year however, I got into a minor accident and decided to switch back to the stock front end as I had a Silvia front before and didn't want another Silvia front. I was also on a budget so the front end was left unpainted, so the front half of my car was grey while the rest of the car was red.

Simple logic dictates that because my car has already undergone a colour change, it would make most economic sense to just paint the grey areas to red. However, my friend's dad's shop is closing down soon and he offered to paint my whole car for pretty much what it would've cost to colour match and repaint the front end. I want to paint the whole car Subaru Java Black Pearl, but the kicker is that my friend's dad will only be painting the exterior. Door jambs and the inside of the door shells will be left untouched. I was planning on just tin canning those parts due to budget, lol.

So basically, the question is..

1. Repaint of red, and have the whole car in and out with matching paint?
OR
2. Paint it black at the expense of having to tin can the door jambs and other unmatched areas

Sorry for rambling lol, input is appreciated.

And just for reference:
Imola Red II

Java Black Pearl

Repainting those Jambs with a rattle can is gonna be more trouble than it's worth IMO. A taping and masking nightmare. I would only do it if you really, really want black.

Do not! I repeat do not paint anything on this car with a "tin can"!
Repaint it imola red. From top to bottom. Including the roof, pillars and the mirrors. Tis the only way it will look worth a fuck.

If you have the patience and time to go with the black, go with the black. It's a sick color.

youde have to be a complete fool to go from such extreme color contrasts

you cannot go black to red, red to black, etc... not without serious stripping

but this is zilvia, and you are 240 owners. i often wonder if people here are mentally handicapped

bottom line, if its red, keep it red.. change the shade. if its black, keep it black.. keep within the same color boundaries.

You have to do it Black, red is gay. Just get some sandpaper and some color matched paint to the black from some paint shop. 3-4 hours later, perfectly crisp black 240. The way they should be.

I would prefer black, but only if you paint the jams. Keep it red so its done the right way.

if i was faced with this choice i would re-do the red. to get the outside sprayed black and then have to go half-ass on the door jambs would be a shame. every time you open your door your going to be bummed seeing the line between good paint and rattle can. i would try to to it nice or not at all you know? just my .02

It's GP. Would look loads better with the front cutout and clear corners/markers. Sideskirts deserve MAJOR respect from me.

If you are going to do a color change, bite the bullet and cough up the cash for the body shop to do a proper job. I paid a fortune for my paint to go from the factory red to the factory Super Black. I took out all the windows before paint and the engine was removed for the bay to be scuffed and sprayed. Moldings were taken off and door jams sprayed too. If done right you won't be able to tell the difference that the car had gone through a full color change.

the problem lies in the fact that you still have the original color bonded to your vehicle. those spots of filler further prove that the body shop did not remove material, but basically filled and covered your car. therefore, any rock chip or delamination of black paint will result in the show of original color

color changes.. just not an easy thing to accomplish, properly.

i assume you kept your interior? pull up the carpet and you can see the red, yes? i used to love doing that to brunettes who died their hair black. the carpet just never matched the drapes hommie

Honestly having owned Black cars and having one of my cars currently Black, I would not advise anyone to paint their car Black.
Black while looking cool is a major pain in the ass in the maintenance department. It also will show every little flaw your car will accumulate.

I would stay with the Red you have gone too. Oh and I would also tend to agree that extreme color changes from one spectrum to another are a bad idea for numerous reasons.

When painting a car and doing a color change do yourself a favor and stay in the particular spectrum the car started in.

Decided to do a respray of the red. Didn't want to have to ghetto door jambs, and the car's parked outside so it'd be a pain in the ass to keep the black clean.

And yes, I'm running full GP-Sports aero. Authentic too

oh yes won't deny that the color change was anything other than a "scuff-and-paint" type job. It would have cost me around $4-5k if not more to have them sand blast the car to take it down to bare metal. The inside of my car was sprayed, which in reality didn't serve much of a purpose since carpet and panels did go over it. The shop used quite a few coats of paint, and haven't seen the original color come through due to stone chips and things of that sort. Mind you I don't drive her much.

If your going to go with black then you should do your door shuts before you take the car in for paint, however your safest bet is probably to just go with the red.
