QUALITY HID kit? Is there such a thing?

Can anyone recommend a non-shitty HID kit / set up for my s14 Kouki? The one that was on the car when i bought it sucks (i dunno what kind it is) and i'm sick of having to fix it every few months. Today the lights just shut off while i was on the freeway. This isn't the first time this has happened. The last times it was a connection problem. I fixed those, but now its something else and i don't know. I'm seriously over it. Shits annoying and i'm pissed. I'll probably just go back to stock, but i figured i'd ask here anyway...

Retrofit your own using some TSX projectors.

The best HIDs you'll find out there are OEM.

Other than that it's mostly gray market shit, like everything else. Look into some companies that deal with higher end Euro cars; see what they recommend.

Hmmm, looks like i'll be doing a retrofit then. Gotta look up some info on that...

EDIT: Didn't find much info on the TSX retrofit into kouki headlights, but i did find a lot on S2k retrofits. This stuff is nice and right up my alley as far as cleanliness and quality, but i really don't have the time to do all the work involved with it. Anybody know of any shops that do this?

EDIT2: I may give those ddm ones a try. At that price its kinda worth it. They can't be worse than the shit im dealing with now. If those give me problems, then i'll drop the coin and do the S2k retrofit.

I second the DDM Tuning ones. They are only $60 shipped for the 55watt kit and comes with a lifetime warranty if you purchase directly through them.

+1 for DDM Tuning

I've had their kits on my Motorcycle and Truck for almost a year now and also installed them on a friends s14 with no problems so far. I would stick with their 35W slim ballast kit, 55W I think is a bit over kill and could possibly cause problems if you plug them into your stock headlight harness.

The last time I ordered from them they had a special going on so I only paid $48 with 2day shipping.

I use star rotors on my daily and I have a few friends that use them. Never had a problem and are like 65 shipped or something like that. I know the guy who runs the company because he does the work on my bike and he is legit.

www.starrotors.com

good luck affording the clear corners stuff. Sooooo pricey but if you can afford it, more power to ya

I'm surprised no one's mentioned clearcorners.com yet

Sounds like you just happen to have some kind of a faulty/ruined kit.
If you are using a higher wattage kit, try a 35W one instead.
Also, if the HID boxes are the metal kind, wrap them in electrical tape, just in case.

I am using the very cheapest kits off Ebay, and have never had problems with them. If two HID kits in a row go bad on you, then the culprit is most likely the wiring in the car or the battery. HID's just tend to be more sensitive than regular bulbs and need a good constant current.

Not sure if anyone has taken a look at ddmtuning.com s sit but you have the option of converting or using and adapter harness to switch H1 to 9006. Does anyone know about this or is it possible with s14 kouki headlight?. I absolutely hate H1 bulbs, to get them secure is a bitch.

I've had a set of the 4300's in my car since last Feb when I bought it. I had a friend that had a set in his sil-80 when we were stationed in Japan. He never had any problems with his either.

The ones I have been working good for about3 years and have sat up for 1 year unused.

That are complete plug and play with high beams, no splicing or cutting.

DOT/SAE approved for street use.

Let me get home and check the brand.

Nothing like oem, so best to retrofit the oem out of another car.

That being said I hear DDM tuning HID kits are good.

nothing beats an OE set-up, these so called HID KITS, are wack. the shit has no proper cut-off, which means when your driving behind me trying to be cool with your white/blue-ish tint headlights, your actually blinding the shit out of me with your so called HID'S. fucking glare-mo status

retro fitting is best, but then again, the question should be....are you willing to put in the time and effort.

S14 240SX S2000 HID RETROFIT

Here is a great write-up on the s2000 retrofit. I think this the best solution for HID's.

i love how the projector is much smaller than original, you get that bigass gap... very appealing and OEM looking

i also love the fact that you have a ballast dangling in your engine bay. i mean, its only 24,000 volts... right? whats the worry, water and debri.. NO PROBLEM.

I have a set from DDMtuning for about a year now and they have worked great and are very bright. You don't need a projector with a cutoff to not blind people. You just need a shield in there for glare and you won't blind anyone. I got the 55w kit and the s13 harness has done just fine. I think the harness can take it, just not small area's.
