Angry Someone hit my sr20!

Last night on the way home from the library (I know, I'm a geek) I was rear-ended by a girl. She was crying because she felt so bad, and I felt bad because she was crying - my bumper is completely ruined, didn't break but is bent down and chipped everywhere, my tail light is cracked, and my Greddy exhaust is a lot louder now because the piping was smashed up and broken. Ironically, I was on my way to the Alignement Shop to drop the car off.

My race season is apparently over now. I am so bummed out!

She has insurance. No one was hurt, that's the only good thing to come of this.

In other news, I dynoed the car on Saturday, and was less-than-pleased with the results - I'm running too rich and only making 200.6 hp and 204.5 ft-lbs of torque at 10lbs of boost. I realize there is about 18-20% loss from the crank to the wheels, but am still dissappointed by the numbers. The other two Silvias in my car club went to the dyno with me (after autoX) and they were making about 214 hp at 12lbs. They weren't running as rich as I was either. My airfuel starts at almost 15 at 2.5 (x1000 rpms) and then runs the downward gamut like this:

14 @ 2.8
12.3 @ 3.0
11.4 @ 3.5
11.5 @ 4.0
10.8 @ 4.5
10.5 @ 5.0
10.4 @ 5.5
10.3 @ 6.0
10.1 @ 6.5

I should be operating in the 12s generally, if I'm not mistaken, for a boosted car. Any suggestions? I think I'm going to get a s-afc to start with, and go from there. Try leaning it out a little - hell, I've got all winter to experiment now.

Jenne

lol! same thought as 95kouki. i thought maybe you had the engine out and someone hit it in the garage. sorry to hear about your car though! maybe you can do most of the repairs yourself and end up with a bit of insurance money left over? seems like nothing major is really busted! bumper and tails u can get off here or in a junkyard. the exhaust might be fixable... that would cost alot for a new one...

its hard to feel really bad about this cuz yesterday i read about some kid dying in a bmw accident/fire and someone's uber expensive show car flipping off a trailer and getting trashed. good luck with your car tho!

tip: if you plan to race your car..DONT GET ATTACHED TO IT!
you will probably crash hurt damage blow or break things on your car. dont be attached to it. ESPECIALLY if you are going to race it.

sorry to hear about accident but you'll be up and running soon
fix the exhaust and hit the track. you dont need a bumper

was this other chick atleast hot? I remember a few years back some chickie young thing backed her ass up onto my car (literally) and actually drove backwards into my car. Why? Because she went in reverse to try to get a parking spot, which of course, I was patiently waiting to get. I was pretty amazed, this was the SECOND time I had been hit.. and I havent even been moving.

the first time I got hit by a girl, I wasnt too happy.. but thats because the girl looked like Aunt Jamima. The second chick looked like a famous porno actress! even though it wasnt Sylvia Saint, I was pretty happy to have gotten my car hit by a girl that DOES look like her! hahaha...

ah man, I'de trade a bumper for a hot girl ANYDAY! haha

I got hit by a hot chick once when I was about 19. Not much damage, just a hole in my front bumper. I told her is was such a bad situation for us to meet like this and told her that we should go out to dinner to start off on a new foot. It worked and I ended up dating the girl for about 4 months.

College parking sucks...i've been hit numerous times, all hit and run and Me never being there when it happens. Whenever I get out of class, I worry if some dumb **** backed into my car and take off. I've found my bumpers hanging, different color paint smudged on my car, etc. You prolly get more damage parking your car at college than drifting.

Progressive is totalling out my car today.

Today is a bad day.

I'm losing 7gs, my sr20, and I think I might have gotten hurt in the accident.

Of course I feel for James and his family.

No one wants these things to happen. I'm not wailing that my plight is worse than anyone else's. But I'm certain that the owner of the show car had insurance on it, and can be responsible for the repairs. I can't do anything but take the check for 1500.00 and watch them take my car away. ****ing insurance companies.

Dousan is right...buy the car back and part it out.

You do have more power than you think....I got away from getting my car totalled by saying "if you want to keep me as a customer you will not total my car" or something along that line.

do NOT let them take your car! just becaues they totalled it out doesn't mean you can't keep it! that car with its mods is worth a LOT more then what they will be willing to give you for it. most insurance companies only insure the stock value of the car. you are the one who will eat a huge loss if you let them take the car away. let them total it out, and buy it back. ull be out a bit but its alot less then the 7 or 8k u put into it. there SHOULD be an option to buy it back after they've totalled it!

good luck!

if you didnt cause the accident, then you are not responsible. if you are not responsible, then they are liable for the parts on the car. if you have reciepts for the parts on the car, then you should be able to prove that your car is worth more than bluebook.

Yeah, it's YOUR car, don't forget that. Hell, if your only option is to take 1500 and give them your car, just keep the crashed heap and cut your lossed, atleast you still have the mods...besides, its still drivable right?

Yeah, look what I did. Totalled twice and repaired twice... first time for $300 labor + 150 parts, second time for $200 (price of panels only) and two weekends of heavy car work with a jeep and a few BFM ("BFH")s.

so I say... FORGET WHAT DOUSAN HAS TO SAY, GET ATTACHED TO YOUR CAR!

also, to reiterate, DON'T LET YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY TAKE IT! buy it back!

yeah but you got lucky

what about if you drop your car off a mountain road, if you are attached you'll be much sadder then if you are 'meh, ill get another'

'minor' (used lightly..for you minor frame damage) is different from severe and unrepairable damage

Haha... I can imagine it... climbing down a steep hillside to take my diff, suspension, seat, etc etc off... then climbing back up said steep hill with a diff strapped to my back.

I produced receipts for about 6g in aftermarket parts, now Progressive says they're going to pay to fix the rear end; today it's at a body shop and they're going to see if the cradle damage is repairable, then they quoted me 1650 for the quarter panel work and the rear bumper.

Anyone else have experience with getting rear-ended in their unibody 240? I am of the opinion that it'll never be right, but maybe with a frame puller?

The real bummer is that I found a donor car with a mint chassis and cradle and a blown ka in it yesterday. Now I almost wish they would total mine. I'd buy it back, swap the sr into the donor chassis, and call it a day. Is three 240s too many to have? lol

The good thing about having a rear subframe is that at least your suspension mounting points will stay in the same place if the unibody gets tweaked. I dunno if your subframe got damaged but replacing one with one from a junkyard is cheap.
