could someone school me on tire/rim/offset size??
i'm researching tires/rims/offset sizes for my soon to be had 97' kouki
now i dont plan on putting on a body kit, but i do plan on putting on springs that do the 1.2" front and 1" rear drop now would 18x8 front, 18x10 rear be ok??? and what tire sizes for this ??? how about 18x9, 18x10 front rear respectively??? and what tire size for these??? i think the reason i want 18's is because i want that real clean fit with no wheel gaps .... and i have no clue about offset size ... what are the variables here in deciding ???? in your responses, pls include as much detail as possible TIA |

my prokits (1.6"f 1.8R) still leave a gap, listen to dousan, he knows his ****. drop the car at least 2" if you want to get rid of the gap.

So Regardless of 15 or 17 he'll have no gap. Shocks and springs leave annoying gaps. There are so many people I know that hate the drop that thier shocks and springs got em. Some even have cases where it dropped a lot less than it said it would.

ok i just bought some stock se/le alloy rims....whats the best type of tire to get for them, im thinking falken's, kumhom, yokohama, or dunlop.....and im wondering whats the best size....ive been told i could fit a 215/50 on their but it would look funny and take away from handling....so im thinking the stock 205/60 would be good enough gimme some ideas....of stuff

i've found these things have been a little helpful with offsets and sizes and such.
http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthre...=5&o=7&fpart=1 and http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html hope that helps.

read the FAQ on offsets/width/wheel selection on FA thoroughly again....it might take a lil time to consume it, but its really easy in the end...
a few things to consider... -Caliper clearance if you wanna do some sort of aftermarket big brake kit -coilover clearance, that is if you plan on putting coilovers on -what you are planning to do with the car and what you are willing to do to make wheels fit, i.e. stretching tires, negative camber, plus size your tire, etc... the lower the offset (et) the more the face of the hub of the wheel is to the inner edge of the wheel, hence making the outer lip of the rim go away from the hub mounting surface.... ( i hope my words came out right, looks wierd to me haha) |

The gap on a kouki S14 should be a lot smaller. S13 wheel gaps were just ridiculously huge. |

heartwork ---
i have pictures of ieatrice's ride with his 18"s, i like how they fit ... how do larger [diameter wise] rim/wheels effect performance??? where are you in the bay area??? do you have aim or yahoo??? |

to answer an earlier question, you can put whatever size wheels you want. as long as you get the right series of tire the outside diameter will be the same. but like heartwork said, the larger the wheel is the more rotating mass there is. also larger wheels give a rougher ride because there is less sidewall to absorb bumps. it all depends on what you want to do with the car. street, show, autocross, drag?
btw, i'm happy with the drop on my car. i didn't measure it, but i think it was more than an inch, new springs do settle over time. i didn't want anything too extreme, just harder springs. but i live in ohio.

if its for drag, why are you getting 18's?!?!?!?!
what car is it going on? i'd get some 15's/16's if you want to drag/autox and throw some meaty tires on there.... if your serious about dragging, you should get the smallest/widest wheel combination and throw some Micky Thompson slicks on there or whatever... i beleive Jspec.com has a set of HKS Drag coilovers for sale... |
