I'm trying to replace my waterpump. How do you loosen the waterpump belt when the power steering oil pump (i think thas wut it is...) won't move? I already loosed that bolt on the front face of the slider thing, and loosened the adjustment bolt, but the thing won't budge. When I try to move it, the whole engine moves with it. Already sprayed WD-40 at the part where the pump's supposed to rotate but that didn't seem to help. Anyone got suggestions?

This is for my 1992 S13.

NO!! dont loosen the belt!!!
just remove clutch fan
pull the pulley off (DONT LOOSEN BELT)
change pumps
put back together

honest dood! I DID MINE that way and it was PERFECT

need to loose the power steering pump pivot screw.

If you look at the p/s pulley, you will notice two slots or wide holes on it, turn the engine or pulley if the belt is losse enough so you can reach another bolt near the block (actually in on the P/S bracket) no need to remove the bolt, just loose it a little bit, then you can move the pump up and down

In my case (93) thats the ONLY bolt tensioning my PS belt, the adjuster one is around here in a highway

I agree with dousan

I did mine and didnt touch the PS pump

if you need to get it off just SOAK the whole thing in WD 40 for an hour or 2

but you should be able to slide it off the pump w/o doing that...just slide the belt and the...(twitchy gnashes his teeth together to think of the word for that thing the belt goes on...)

anyhow just play with it it will slide off.

I also tried just sliding it off after removing those four nuts, but it doesn't seem to want to move. -_-; Oh well guess I'll just have to keep playing with it. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yah, I think I gotta do that. Too bad I don't have the tools to reach it at that angle. <:\

I also tried just sliding off the pulley. Well, more like tried yanking it off, cuz it just won't move. I took off the fan, took off those four nuts holding the fan coupling and pulley to the waterpump, but neither the fan coupling nor the pulley wanna move at all. I don't know if they're glued together or what. Or am I doing something wrong?

This is stupid but I'm thinking maybe I should start the engine and see if they'll loosen themselves and fly off. =X

Looking at the pump fromthe driver side, you will see the bolt between the pulley and pump. Just turn the pulley until the slot is in front of the bolt.
A small extension with a 14 mm socket will do.

Dont start your engine with all those bolts loose or missing, you will break something!!

Yeah that was it. I didn't notice the holes in the PS pulley. =) Haha well that solved the belt removal problem, but the fan coupling and waterpump pulley still didn't come off. It turns out the pieces got rusted so they were stuck together. WD-40 plus WD-40 plus lots of pounding with a mallet finally got it off.

Thanks for everyone's help. And I definitely need more tools. -_-;

How long should I let the RTV sealant thing cure before I put coolant in and run the car again?

I put the sealant on both sides of the supplied waterpump gasket and reinatalled it. by time I got everything together I drove off it was fine. Maybe an hour

note if yuou get any "bubbles" in the system your car may overheat.. Mine did twice then it was fine.
