Why do the S14s have no door window frame?

Most cars have a metal frame that surrounds the window, acts like a guide.

My S14 is the first car I've been in that doesn't have that. When I realized it the first time, I remember seeing a video I d/led with a Porsche GT3 w/o it either.

Does anyone know why the doors are designed like this? thanks.

I don't know about you, but I've got nearly $10k into my car, and people don't need to know how to break into my car. Even though it doesn't take much thought.. keep things like this off the board.

I'm guessing maybe visibility since it's supposed to be a "sports car"? I used to have a 96 Celica and it also had no window frame. One thing I noticed about both cars is that their greenhouse is very low and long. I wonder if that's a factor.

its a lot better i think so. rather than opening and getting out of the door and ur arm ramming into the frame. happens all the freaken time when i get in and out of my brothers GSR.

Hmm, I see. thanks for the repiles. But I think I put this on the technical forum to try to get responses on whether or not it's for some kind of frame strength design or if it's just for looks/appeal.

i'm pretty sure its just for looks...most sports cars are like that. i had a 90 celica that was like that. i don't see how it help frame strength being that its lacking part of it

its just for looks. There is little strength in having a frame.

I think it could have something to do with a weight issue as well. If you put that frame around the window, it will put more weight on the door hinges. Every little bit helps on a 2-door - the doors like to sag because they're so heavy and long.

thanks. Yeah, I was thinking that MAYBE Nissan engineers wanted as little weight as possible around the top area. This lowers the centroid or center of gravity.

But then again...Nissan doesn't always appeal to me as a company with attention to detail. *ahem* rattles, interior quality...paint.

but they still build damn nice sports cars.
