alloy mags turning black as sanding?

So I recently bought some 2nd hand 17" alloy mags with a few minor scuffs on it, so I figured i'd polish them buy giving them a wet sand before I put them on my car.

As I begin sanding the alloy look starts to disappear and underneith is black, at first I thought it was just the black from my wet sand paper but soon realise its not and its too late. I thought under the black would be metal somwhere so I gave it a little bit more sand and it turns white.... any ideas whats happened? I've bearly taken anything away from the wheel its only 600grit wetsand.

Is there any alloy I can polish up under there?

Is there such thing as alloy spray paint?

After doing more research, its shadow chrome paint which is very common on mag wheels, and they don't sell it as its only really supplied to mag manufactures cause its hard to apply, so now im opting to paint them black or white.

and yes they were cheap only temporary wheels for a few months they look good and i figured I could resell them easily for how much I paid for them.

Suggest powder coating, its durable, relatively cheap, and you can get pretty much any color nowadays.

to re do the wheels is like $150nzd a wheel, i only bought them for $300nzd, cause a friend of mine really wanted my GTST rims, so I sold them to him for $200 and bough these for a extra $100, my 180's not road legal yet so these are just for test driving and rolling it around for the next year or so untill I buy some better wheels. I figured I'd just keep them until I flick them off for what I paid if not more for them.

So just a quick opinion Black with silver lip, or full white?
