Over heated...what harm did I do?

Well, I was attempting to diagnose an electrical problem the other day and disconnected my electric fan. I fixed the problem, but forgot to reconnect the fan. Anyway...I was driving around town today when I looked at my temp. gauge and the needle was burried in the "H". I immediately shut my car off, reconnecte the fan, and waited until the temp was back to normal (which took about 30 seconds). I then turned the car on and everything was runnin A. Okay!

I'm just hoping that I didn't do any damage...please reassure me.

First... Drain the Oil, and Change. While Oil is out look under the Oil Cap at the Cams and see if they have any built up Black Burnt oil on them... Burnt oil can clog your oil squirters which in turn blows the entire engine.

I always use Marvel Mystery Oil when changing my oil... When Draining I also sacrifice some to clean out excess oil...!

Also you may want to check your hoses to make sure they are not blistered.

I have looked at a few options for oil cooling and cleaning... simple items like Samco Silicon Hoses and Power Enterprise Oil Filter are excelent long life items.

Hope everything is O.K.

if it was burried in the red i could see signicant damage. If just close to H then should be ok unless you saw steam barreling from the hood.

What does barried mean?

and anyway, the stock gauges are poop. so a little varience in the needle doesnt mean good or bad.

my moms van used to always over heat. cause the fan siezed, and she told the tech, (my son likes to crank the volume up on the stereo pretty loud when hes in the van with me. could this be why its overheating.) the tech then proceded to bend her over and say yes, I will have to replace the radio and fan as it is a direct link. yada yada yada. but se we just ran the van like it was as she is hard to part with her cars. and it was fine. you should be too.
