I hit the speed limiter for the first time tonight and man was that strange. It pulled hard all the way to 115 and then it felt like I hit a wall. One of the strangest things I've felt in a car. I'm pissed cos my 89 civic could do 130 and there's no way I want to lose to a car like that on the highway.
would just an ecu change this? Or is there more to it? Maybe someday I'll be able to go 180 right along side my friend's 95 twin turbo-7. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> Prolly not. |

Definatly. One of the selling phrases on the JWT waebsite for the reprogrammed ecu is "ramoves speed governor and raises rev limiter."

what's the price on the JWT? and do you need to get it reprogrammed if you get extra mods?
i.e: I now just have exhaust, if i get header and intake will it need to be reprogrammed? |

I don't think you would have to reprogram it, but I think you wouldn't be getting all the benefits if you didn't. I'm going with my I/H/E and pulley, and maybe even a throttle body, before I get the ECU.. (I think the stuff the program for is the I/H/E though)\

There's an easier way to kill the speed limiter and a very easy way to kill the 5th gear rev limiter after that. U have to cut a wire at the ECU that doesn't allow the computer to recognize ur speedometer. Although, expect ur engine light to come on, and all u have to do then is unplug an electrical connection at the tranny to kill the 5th gear speed limiter. Then the sky's the limit and it's alot cheaper than a $500 reprogram from JWT. Search this forum and u will find my post from about a month ago that goes into great detail. Good luck

yeah man... i think our cars can go way past 130mph... i was doing 170km/h (106mph) and it odometer was only on like 4500-5000rpm. i would say without the limiter, it could go a little past 140mph.

I'm thinking 130 tops. Maybe you could redline 5th with a good tailwind though.:) |
